I've got a good feeling about this weekend guys. It supposed to be cold and I've seen 3 shooters in the same area the last two weekend. Gonna hit it hard this weekend and hopefully connect on one.

Well I should have had us on the board. I don't know what went wrong. About 20 minutes before dark, an 8 point came directly in and made 2 scrapes in front of me. I'm guessing he would have scored somewhere in the 110" range. After making the scrapes he walked right by my stand giving me a nice quartering away shot at 10 yards. I let him have it and the arrow blew through the torso and into the opposite shoulder, stopping it from passing through. The shot looked nice and he looked to be hit hard. It was really cold last night so I gave him the night to expire, just to be safe. Went out this morning and tracked him for about 100 yards. Minimal blood because of the no pass through and the arrow was still plugging the hole. After losing blood, we grid searched all aound and he is nowhere within 300-400 yards of the last point of blood. He can be ANYWHERE from there.

The only thing I can figure is that somehow my arrow narrowly missed the near lung and I one-lunged him. I'm pretty upset about this, it seems like the better of a shot I make, the harder of a time I have finding them. I will do everything in my power to make sure my next shot on a deer pops both balloons or I'm not shooting. That's pretty much all I can do at this point.

I saw plenty of bucks this weekend. 1 of which I'm thinking I probably should have shot but didn't. He was border line 130 8pt. Its still early in the season. In total, I saw 6 different bucks this weekend. He was the only shooter. Did see a promising 7 pt too. Ended up shooting a doe Sunday night. 17 yard shot. Double lung. She ran 25 yards and piled up. I'm after the big boy now.....

I know this is a deer contest, but I also shot my first turkey ever with a bow the weekend before last. She was at 8 yards. I was hunting out of a Double Bull. She never knew what hit her.

I am actually going to go into the woods for the first time this weekend. I am a high school soccer coach so my season always starts a little late. I just had my banquet yesterday and im done until December. I plan on hunting 14 days over the next 4 weeks, so I may get on teh board. I have told myself im not going to be very picky this year. I have five stands waiting on my small piece of property in the Lakes and 2 more 1900 acres of public land. I don't get much human traffic were i go on the public land. Hopefully I can score early on a buck, but i am still waiting for the 4th -11th of November. That is primetime in my area. I am after a buck that my Father in law named the Basketball hoop buck (Named for obvious reasons).

Well. I still haven't gotten one, however, last nighti was out and maybe a half hour before dark one of the biggest bucks i have ever seen came out at about 80 yards. He was a typical 14 pointer and would have scored really nice..i have heard humors of a big buck out there but i never thought he was going to be this big. I moved my blind and so I will try it again tonight.

Well, I didn't rteally get to hunt this weekend because it was Youth Weekend here in Texas, and I have two boys that qualify. Archery was still open, and I did carry my bow, but since my youngest is under twelve he has to hunt with an adult, so I was playing Guide.

However, my oldest son did score, and in a big way for his first buck. He had shot his first gobbler and first doe about 3 years ago, but he hasn't wanted to shoot a buck unless it was a good one, so he hadn't killed one yet. He was hunting about 500 yards from us (private land), and this big old busted up scrapper walked out and he nailed him. This guy was a nine point, but he had major parts of four tines broke off, including a split brow tine. Mason was so excited about getting him, and I was very proud of him too. Definitiely a good one for a first buck, even though he is busted up pretty bad. It was 125 yards and he got him right through both lungs and the top of the heart (the blood in the pic is where he was laying in it). He came walking right up to the tarsal gland that I cut off my doe two weeks ago and froze, then put out for him.

Big bucks are chasing the does and Kentucky's big gun season opens this coming weekend. I'll be in a different part of Kentucky so I'll be a little picky... Come on out monster!
