Default My Projects - Pics

Been working on a coupla midieval replica crossbows and finally have the first one finished. It's a simple notch lock with bound on, silk-backedwood prod. I got tired of waiting on the steel prod I ordedand wanted something to shoot, so I cut my favorite selfbow in half and retillered the handle area to match to limb tip. Wound up at 36" nock to nock. I have strung it up and shot it. Shoots really nice and accurate, using the gapaiming system since it doesn't have any sights. It'sjust not very fast. Definite target shooter and rabbit killing machine though.

Top view. The bit dangling down on the right side is my fancy trigger block safety.Gotta have a safety to be legal for hunting in Texas.

Closeup of the notch lock:

This is the rolling nut tiller I've been working on. This one is destined to wear the steel prod... if it ever gets here. It will use bindings to hold the prod also.

I decided not to cut a rail for this one. The bolt will be held in place by the two dome nails at the front and it will shoot a 2-fletch bolt. If it doesn't work out, I can always go back and cut in the rail.

Closeup of the rolling nut. After routing in the socket for the rolling nut, the walls in that area were only 1/8" thick. I didn't trust that to hold back 125 lbs, so I made steel reinforcing plates for both sides. This sucka ain't coming apart.

Edit: Sorry about the sizes.Iresized all of them but somehowthey didn't post that way.
