Sorry to thread jack, but I am intrigued by Len's question. Being an entreprenuer, I will give you my take on it.

Business 'C' will do the best. This is because the customer will realize that this shop has gone above and beyond the call of duty and will never consider buying a bow or accessories elsewhere, thus becoming a customer for life. He will also tell all his hunting buddies how this shop was so customer oriented and how they should visit there anytime they need bow work done, new bow, accessories, etc.

Business' 'A' and 'B' will be hard pressed to make it because the customer will leave the shop recieving ordinarary service and will probably think there is no difference between any shops in his area, thus visiting any of them in the future and not impressed enough to refer them to other people he knows.

Now Slugman, to answer your question, I would spend a little more money and take your bow to a knowledgeable person in the industry and have the work done right the first time. You get what you pay for. ;)

I charge $20 for a tune and setup. That is provided everything is working correctly with no major mechanical problems with the bow or accessories.

That will depend on whether "X" is an amount that the shop can survive on. The perfect formula is a combination of service that the customer appreciates and price that the owner can live on. Any one of those options could be a good or bad one. For instance, if the shop does too much, it can actually lose money on the deal. How many deals can they afford before they go out of business? On the other hand, if the shop does too little, how long before the customer looks elsewhere to find a better value? Finding the happy middle ground is the difficult part.

It all depends on where you go and the level of service that you get. I personally would rather take my bow to someone like Len and pay $40 than I would take it to Jackleg Joe and only pay $15. It's worth it to me to have the piece of mind to know that my equipment has been in the hands of someone who took the time to thoroughly access the issues at hand. Unfortunately, there is no one like that in this area.:( There are some decent shops and a couple of reasonably knowledgeable techs that will do the best that they know how for you. There just isn't anyone around here that has a "Len type" conceptual knowledge of archery equipment. The concept is still the same though. You take it to the one that you have the most confidence in and then pay whatever that person charges.

Bow shop a sells archery equipment only and only one brand and has an excellent tech that runs the place
Bow shop b sells just about anything pertaining to hunting and fishing
but dont have much of a tech.

which one will stay in business longer?

pd 60 total for having the draw length adjusted , tuned & 6 carbon revolution arrows. Plus got to shoot at the indoor range. Guy wouldnt let me leave until I was getting good groups. He was the same draw length as me so made it a little easier to get it right. Oh , price also included a string & brush busters for my recurve. Small local shop , owner sd stop in any time if you have questions. Can you get that at Dicks or Walmart ........uh no.
