New Mathews Bows are online
Right Here
Haven't checked them out yet, going to do that right after I post this :) Looks like one named "Switchback". I guess in case you left the fold and want back in... :) |
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
Cant say i'm overly impressed. The Switchback looks like Mathews response to Bowtechs Allegiance. The cam on this seems interesting. I plan on trying this one out it may surprise me and be a real shooter. But the real shocker was that Conquest Apex. A MSRP of $1249 you have got to be kidding!!! One other thing Mathews seems to have new is some new strings, called the Zebra Baraccuda strings, I hope they are better than the old zebra twists

RE: New Mathews Bows are online
Here is the press release on the Switchback from Mathews website.
New Mathews Switchback … The Best Way to the Top! Monday, November 15, 2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New Mathews Switchback … The Best Way to the Top! Mathews, the inventor of single-cam technology, and many other revolutionary compound bow innovations, announces for 2005 the introduction of its most innovative bow ever—the Mathews Switchback. Mathews’ all-new Cobra Cam with dual perimeter weighted technology is at the center of this performance. It has allowed Switchback to be designed with a generously comfortable 7-inch brace height. Yet, Switchback clocks a sizzling 318 fps (approx.) IBO rating. That’s right … it’s silky smooth and it sizzles! Also, Mathews, the leader in vibration-canceling, super-silent performance has taken another step higher with two more harmonic dampers, these built into its innovative Roller Guard. Switchback is aptly named—the smartest, most efficient way to the top of the mountain, a Mathews quest since the company began business in 1992. Combining Mathews’ innovations like single-cam technology, the perimeter-weighted cam, harmonic dampers, string suppressors, parallel limb design, roller guard, In-Line grip, V-Lock limb cups, etc. along with new-for-2005 innovations, Switchback has proven in laboratory testing to be Mathews’ best design ever! The new Mathews Switchback … the best way to the top! Mathews SWITCHBACK Specifications IBO Rating: 318 fps (approx.) AMO Rating: 241 fps (approx.) That's it?????

RE: New Mathews Bows are online
Just one new hunting bow? What (if any) changes were made to the Outback, LX, etc.?
|
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
The Switchback at first glance seems more comparable to the Patriot... 33" a-to-a, 7-inch brace height, but anywhere from 2-10 fps slower and a good bit more mass. I'm guessing they'll say it's smoother, though after Pat let me shoot the Patriot SC I know it'd be hard to top.

ORIGINAL: Mike from Texas That's it????? I believe they are suppost to release the full line later in the year. |
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
from what I understand.. they released 2 bows now.. and 2 more at the ATA show... I'm guessing that since they are listening to what people are asking for... we might actually see a revamped MQ1.. or something like it.. Glad to see them copying Bowtech.. by actually giving people what they are asking for... it just takes them a few more years....
Hmm... 2 weight disks in the cams.. why didn't they think of that 7 yrs ago? Harmonic dampners in the cable roller.... what an innovation [:-] ... "Barracuda Zebra Strings".. how much you wanna bet they are TS1.. (or possibly 452x).. wow that's innovation.. Glad to see at least Bowtech came out w/ some "REAL" innovations!!! There was another thread on AT that started a rumor that "Escalade might be buying Mathews..." Bwahahahahahahahaha |
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
You all bash Mathews, but that does not seem like that bad of a bow right there, definently peaks me interest more than the Outback did!
|
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
If that thing draws like the Outback and really puts out that kind of speed and is as quiet as the Outback, they are going to sell a ton of those. I do think they are responding to Bowtech, even with the string change. And once again they release early in the areas where they are the most vulnerable in terms of the competition. I know that from a Bowtech perspective, it's not earth shattering. But for the Mathews loyalists it's enough.
I'll bet that the Switchback will be one of the hottest sellers this year. |
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
How about a hybrid cam on a Mathews? Now that would peak my interest.
A 40 in. ATA bow with hybrid cams and a 7 inch brace height would be about right. Guess I better wake up now, I must be dreaming. :D |
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
I'm just having a rough time figuring out how some say they draw so smooth. The Outback I pulled back at the shop damn near tore my shouldar out of socket.
Either way, maybe the Cobra cam they are pushing this year may be a nicer cam. Thus far, nothing worth writing home about from Mathews this year. |
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
Yes, nothing Earth shattering, but where do they really have to go? I'm no big Mathews fan, having had two that were both OK, but nothing special, IMO. Yet last year when I was in the mood to experiment, I looked at their lineup, and thought the Outback looked good, but was too short ATA, the LX looked good too, but too little brace, so the Switchback kinda fills that gap. If the bow does shoot as fast as advertised, it could be a little tough to pull, but that is yet to be determined. I still think they could sell an updated MQ1, 37-38" ATA, 7.5" brace, 310 IBO. Maybe a bow like that is too big for most guys today though. All of these new bows are interesting, but when I shoot my current bows, laying down the cash for a new one is tough to justify.;)

RE: New Mathews Bows are online
Hope they have more to offer then that!
|
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
I think it definitely fills a niche for them but no 31 inch draw length and only a measly 7 inch brace....:). I am sure it is going to sell as well as the Outback did last year.
|
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
Yeah the brace is only 7" but it does have a 25.5" riser. That should be plenty forgiving. Anyone know what the riser length on the Allegiance is? Looks like a head to head match to me.

RE: New Mathews Bows are online
If I can't get my Patriot to quit curve balling my arrows there may just be a Switchback on the way to take it's place. I'm gonna tweak some more after season with a fixed rest and see if my problems disappear, if not.......
The Switchback has the specs I like, but the extra weight I don't like. But at this point I'll take .34# over the headaches I've faced this last year. OR, I will shoot a deer with slicktricks this year, like what I see and use them forever with my Patriot- they shoot great out of this rig (when hardly anything else will). |
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
same crap another day!
|
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
Switchback looks like a nice rig. I'm going to shoot the '05 Bowtech Patriot, '05 Bowtech Alegence and the '05 Mathews Switchback. Hopefully one really jumps out at me! I'm going to really check out the actual chrono speeds, and make sure draw lengths are the same.
Good Luck! |
RE: New Mathews Bows are online
I think it's amazing that some bow manufactors have such rabid support.People blinded by opinion and the need(just maybe) to fit in.In real world,it's getting harder to find a bad bow because theres just so many good bow manufactures out there.I can say this with some degree of confidence just by the bows I've owned and the bows I've shot.
Having said that,I'd still rather be a master of one-than a jack of all trades...Bob |
