Far be it for me to be the posting police - but damn NickSnook - You've only contributed to 7 postings and each one was to pimp your Turbo Nock.

Looks like you are going through archives now and digging up old messages just to reply only to the Turbo Nock posts.

Don't you have anything else from your 51 years of bowhunting experience to share with us?

I passed word onto Nick that there were some posts about his product on this site. I suggested he come check it out and answer peoples questions.

You want to be pissy and bitch because he is taking time out of his day to clairfy some questions about his product?

Do you think he will sell a bunch because of his few postings on HNI? I would be willing to guess it would be a poor return in profit for time spent. I read the posts and saw no "pimping" going on.

Lighten up, you should be glad that a manufacturer comes to HNI to answer question and is willing to help with technical support for his product.

I've got no concern with manufacturers here, in fact I rather enjoyed reading his first few posts.

But... Try to imagine if every manufacturer was on here every day pimping only their products, it'd be an endless stream of advertising.

Personally I could care less how busy he is and whom he is doing a favor - he's not the only busy guy in the world - my question was - with all that experience is he going to share anything new or keep digging up old turbo nock archives.

Is there anyone else more qualified to answer a technical question about the Turbonock than Nick Snook? I don't think so!

God luck hunting! >>>------------>

No Worries!!! I don't take any of this to heart - I'm just here to learn and share.
I probably should have known I'd be shaking the hornets nest with that post anyhow.

I would love to hear how Nick turned his idea to market - reminds me of that guy a couple of months ago who had a "revolutionary" product that would take 2 things off your bow and wanted tips on getting it to market. Sounds like that would be right up Nick's alley if he has the time. I'll bet most of us at one time or another has had a great idea fall short. Its good to know there is still room for advancing the sport.

But back to the Turbo Nock - I do have an unanswered question I posted in another discussion:

How does the T.N. effect pass thru shots???
Also, have they been tested with 3 blade Muzzys?

RE: Turbo Nock Turbo Nock Turbo Nock

Hazcon

I will try to answer your question without pimping my product.

I have about 75 staff shooters at this time and all are amatures.
Two things can happen when you shoot an animal with a TURBO.
If you glue the nock in , it usually passes through as long as you do not hit a big hunk of bone. The TURBO acts as a second set of cutting blades and causes more trauma to the animal. We have video of a seven second kill on a pronghorn from the Sportsman Channel.
If you do not glue the TURBO into the shaft, it usually pops off and can be used as a marker to find where the animal was hit. A lot of my shooters tree stand hunt and find this to be a benefit.
our most recent video kill was done by Greg Hopf on the Sportsman channel. He shot a 500 lb chocolate Black bear. You can see nock pop off, The bear ran about 60 yds and expired. The shaft continued through the 500 lb bear and was sticking in the ground about 3feet from where the nock was laying.
Broadhead testing. we have tested most everything out there including Muzzy 90, 100, 125 grain in three blade and 4 blade. We have found from this testing that The TURBO HUNTER will stabilize most broadheads as long as they are 125 grains or less. One of my shooters
Jeff Vick competes in 3d broadhead tournaments in California and usually places well in competitions. Jeff uses the 4blade muzzy.
If you need more specific info you can go to our website at www.turbonock,com and click on tuning tips and ask questions directly to my staff shooters. They are only to glad to help.
OOPS , I hope you do not think that is pimping??
If you truely have an interest it is a lot easier to go there and then everyone here will not get all riled up.

In all honesty I did not come here to "pimp my product"
I was told there were some items of concern here , and I just wanted to set things right. I stated on the last reply that I would not promote my product here, but would answer any questions.
I will not initiate any posts on my product, but I hope it is OK to respond
even though I am a manufacturer , I am also an archer.
I hope this answers your questions and addresses your concerns about pimping!!

RE: Turbo Nock Turbo Nock Turbo Nock

Thanks!!!

When I first posted this idea about 4years ago on the old easton site, right after I got my patent, The place went ballistic, I got called more names than I thought existed! Lets see , Turdo nock, meglamaniac, huckster, etc. I basically went on the site to get help on setting up compound bows. I am a recurve shooter from age 3 and knew very little about compounds, My original TURBO does not work on recurves ,so I had a lot of catchup to do. Fortunately for me GRANDPAWRICHARD, who is now our TEAM COACH really helped me out and did early test shooting for me. He was the first person to shoot a vegas round CLEAN all XS with my nock and he is an amature!!!!!
I remember many years ago going to the Harrisburg Sport Show and meeting Fred Bear and Bill Jennings and seeing their first compound that they marketed. It was really UGLY There were wheels everywhere on that darn thing!! My old man sold Wing , Hoytttttt, Black Widow, Tri State and other recurves and we both basically agreed "NO WAY " on that compound bow!!! "WRONG!!!!!!!" Two years later you could not give a recurve away!!!!

Nick,

Any plans on building a whisker biscuit type rest especially made for the turbo nock?

My WB is what will keep me from trying your nocks - I won't shoot without it.
That nock looks a bit thick to be shot out of the WB.

NickSnook 08-12-2004 01:01 PM

RE: Turbo Nock Turbo Nock Turbo Nock

HAZCON
There is no reason to modify the whisker. Looks can be deceiving!!
We have taken , Kudu, Warthog, Duiker, Pronghorn, Bear, Deer, all with the TURBO NOCK and the Whisker.
I have over 3000 shots on my whisker and have not have to change the brush and no wear on the nylon turbo.
I do a demo at hunting shows where I take a whisker and hold it vertically and drop a fletched arrow through it, It always gets hung up and the only way to get the arrow to pass through the biscuit is to give it a strong downward push. I drop a turbo and it slips right through.
I am attaching the photo of just one whisker kill
The reason for this is simple physics.
The larger the surface area of an object the more resistance or drag it has when passing through materials.
Three vanes have about 7 square inches of surface area and you can lose anywhere from 2 to 12 fps going through a whisker.
The DEADX with .8 sq in. basically slips right through the whisker.
The Hunter with 1.6 sq in does the same.
we could chrono no speed loss with the TURBO and the whisker.
This is the same reason why TURBOS also usually pass throug on a kill.
even though they are a rigid nylon they produce less drag going through an animal than vanes that have a much greater surface area.

I get this a lot at shows, People ask how can a hard vane pass through an animal, we have always used soft vanes?
I just ask them when is the last time they used a soft broadhead?
The hard ones pass through just fine?

The TURBO is not just another hyped gimmick, this in all honesty is
a new technology of arrow flight, and changes most of the rules we have grown accustomed to and feel safe with in our sport.
If a major archery company with a lot more funds than me would have invented this , you would in all likelyhood see them everywhere.

The TURBO for obvious reasons will be slow to be accepted by the mainstream archery industry. The formost reason is that it eliminates ,or at least has the potential to eliminate the fletching industry, which is a major source of revenue for manufacturers and dealers.
If you shoot a whisker Biscuit ,the average is about 50 to 60 shots and the vanes are ready to be refletched. If a shop does your fletching, that could be three to four times a year and you have spent two to three times what your original arrows cost, just in refletching. My turbos are at 3000 plus shots and still going! And the darn things ( if you set them up properly) work better!!

Hey HAZCON
I just got an e-mail from Mike Corrigan who writes reviews for FastestBows .com
They just put up a review on their website about using the whisker biscuit and the turbo nock.
So if you want to read an interesting article that is unbiased (not by me, and not paid for by me) check it out!!!

I figure if you just type in FastestBows.com on your search engine it should come up.
If not , let me know and I will put up the http wwww stuff.

RE: Turbo Nock Turbo Nock Turbo Nock

Nick, I have a question as well. Last year at the Harrisburg sportsmans show I purchased a dozen turbo nocks. I told the lady at the counter that they need to fit on a dozen easton axis arrows that I would be recieving. She handed me a pack and told me that they would deffinately fit. Needless to say when I got the arrows they weren't even close to fitting. Now I have a dozen nocks that won't fit on anything I own. How do I go about getting the right size since I bought them at the show?

I started a thread here on the turbo nocks. I saw them in a catalog and wanted to know more. I am glad Nick took the time to explain his product. It gave me a better idea what it was about. I don't think he was pushing his product. He was explaining it. I got a lot of responses about how it was junk. But the people didn't bother to tell me that they failed to take the steps necessary for success. I appreciate his input, and for that i am thankful.

HAZCON7,

If we want knowledgable archers to post on this forum, it would help to not curse and insult them. Most of us are better at hunting than writing and sometimes come off a little differently in writing than we intended. This is a great forum, but it is very easy to drive off people with knowledge and experiece that we can all learn from.

Please the insults to yourself.

Nick,

Thank you for the information on the turbo nocks. I hope to see you in Richmond this weekend. You are listed as an exhibitor.

Good shooting,
Allen

I don't shoot turbo nocks, and don't know that I ever will. I just don't like the looks of them. I however do not feel that he "pimps" his product here. He usually just answers questions and answers them honestly. I personally like it when when the devoloper of a product shows up on these things and supports his product. It shows he is not just out to make a buck or rip someone off. There are plenty of people here using them any way. It would be hard for him to pull the wool over our eyes without someone putting him in his place and telling the real story. I haven't seen that happen yet, so he must be a pretty stand up kind of guy.

Paul
