Home maid target, ever try this?
What about stuffing a cardboard box with shredded paper, you know, the thin strips that are left after running secret documents through a shredder? :)
We recently got a shredder at our office. Don't yet have a feel for how much it get's used, but I'm wondering if stuffing the crap out of a box with it, duct taping it shut and shooting it would stop an arrow? Any ideas? |
RE: Home maid target, ever try this?
there is only one way to find out!:D

RE: Home maid target, ever try this?
I took a bunch of boxes from our warehouse. Collopsed them and banded them all together with the same bands that we make bales of paper out of. Worked pretty well until a couple bands broke from the arrow going threw it.
If you get enough paper shavings I think you could be on to somethings. J |

You will definitely go to jail RB if you start making targets out of your home maid![:-]

Yeah........I was thinking that too. A new McKenzie style with a short black skirt and apron.[:-] That wouldn't be Politically correct right?;)
As far as your new target idea? Make sure you put a real target behind that one cause' it isn't going to stop a paper clip.:D |
RE: Home maid target, ever try this?
You would probably have to pack it really tight and then I am guessing that arrow removal is going to be a realy b....!

Get a box and stuff it with rags and old clothing. Stops the arrows with no problem and they are simple to remove.

I have made a target like that and it stops arrows very well except the target is extremely heavy because you really have to pack the papers to keep the arrow from going too far in. I may have used too much paper though. Also make sure it doesn't get soggy because it will be ruined, be really heavy and just rot away. Arroow removal is also pretty hard until you start to shoot out the middle. It is a good target for the price and effort. Don't put too much duct tape on or your arrows get the adhesive all over them.

I have heard that shrink wrap (the stuff they wrap palettes with) works better than paper or rags......although I have not accumulated enough to try it yet.

The target I'm thinking about making will me made with that vinyl siding underlayment (sp)? The stuff looks like the same material that the Block target is made out of. You can find it at the large lumber yards like Home Depot. The material is folded and it would be easy to cut into uniform width pieces (where it's folded);) Then just put a plywood bottom and top on and compress with bolts or band it tight,, like the Block target.:)

Gimp,
Let me know if this stuff works I have been going to try it as well. I am about ready to dump the 200 bucks and buy one of those 3-d deer from the block company, but hate to spend the money. |
RE: Home maid target, ever try this?
I'll try it soon,,, as soon as I get caught up with orders!! I just want a target that lasts forever!!!!! Dang BowTechs!!![:@]

Walks,
There is a company making a target very similar to what you describe. The material looks very much like the construction material you're referring to. They control pentration with the tightness of the bolts compressing it. Every so often, they recommend taking it apart and moving shot-out areas, to different sections. Sounds like it would last for years. |
RE: Home maid target, ever try this?
A friend of mine did this with news paper and it worked, but the removal was rough sometimes and a few inserts were lost.
Oh, yeah and if we shot to frequently it started smoking from the friction heat.[&:] |
RE: Home maid target, ever try this?
A person e-mailed for more info on the target that I made, here is a link to another taopic that should help, if you need more info just ask. I'll post it here. Sorry but the pictures no longer come out on these links.

RE: Home maid target, ever try this?
buy a large target, use peices of gaffers tape for your bulls eye on different places of the target. gaffers tape doesnt leave any residue. you dont have to go through all the trouble of making your own, and you can get millions of shots in a $50 target. this also cuts back on robbinhooding arows. but make sure you are using the center of the target when sighting in, it isnt good to go over to the neighbors to tell them you owe them a new tire/dog/garage door. ;)

RE: Home maid target, ever try this?
I made mine out of carpet and 2X10" boards. Works very well for field points. Hope this helps. Be safe.

RE: Home maid target, ever try this?
Derby, I'm getting ready to have a big supply of used carpet (everybody please feel sorry for me... :( ), and was considering doing something like what Bobco posted only using carpet. Your design looks interesting, except I can't quite make out what you did, even when opening the attachment link.
Any chance you can make the attachment bigger? Thanks in advance... :) |
RE: Home maid target, ever try this?
Probably 7 years ago I bought one of the Delta bags and stuffed it with shrink wrap till it was bulging. On one side I put a piece of carpet in first before I stuffed it. I still can't shoot field points through it. The colors on the bullseyes are wearing off before the target has worn out. After 2-3 years I pulled the carpet out and moved it to the other side. Very little money invested for an awesome field point target and it pulls out easy too.
