Default My Incosistancy Problem!

I was out this morning shooting my BowTech Patriot Dually and finally found out why I'm shooting so inconsistant. On the weekend I was setting up my new sight {Real Deal} and I was having a bit of a problem with up and down movement ,when I came to this forum I read another posting talking about cock vane up on drop away arrow rest's {Muzzy Zero Effect}.Today I went out to pay close attention to which way I was knocking my arrow,I also had a little wobble every once in awhile so this was another problem I wanted to watch for as well.
Although I had some success with some of my shooting on Saturday, I was not paying close attention to which way I had been knocking my arrow. I tried knocking the arrow cock vane down and noticed that I was shooting low and inconsistant at all ranges 20,30,40yrds but it was at least more consistant than I had experienced on the weekend.I then shot all my arrow's at 20,30 and 40yrds with cock vane up this was the difference ,I never thought that this could make such a difference, although I wasn't perfect and still have some form flaw's my shooting was alot more consistant and I was definetly on target. I noticed that every once in awhile I still had a bit of a wobble so I numbered my arrow's and found that it wasn't alway's the same arrow ,so this pointed to my form .I tried consintrating on my grip and the levelness of my bow and the wobble got less, when I never watched my grip and level the wobble was back ,so now I'm sure I need to consintrate a little more on my grip and levelness of my bow on every shot .I was pretty impressed with the information that I put to good use and to find the result's turned in a very positive direction . I would like to thank the guy's on this board and let some of the newbies know if you pay close attention to the information on this board it can make a difference in your shooting and in the way you set-up your bow . There's alot of knowledgable guy's here and have certainly helped me a lot.

So nubo, are you chalking up some of the inconsistancy to fletching contact or was there something else "special" about having your cock vane up?

I was waiting for you to read this ,I'm not blaming the inconsistancy totally on the cock vane ,I'm blaming the inconsistancy mostly on how I set-up ,but I found that with the cock vane up the arrow flew a little better and was a little more accurate ,I'm sure the inconsistancy is me and maybe it sound's like I'm blaming it on which way I knock my arrow, but there definetly was a difference in the way the arrow flew . But now I'm sure most of my problem is me and how I've been setting up for my shot with not paying attention. As for the arrow touching, this is a possibility and I'll do a powder test later to see if there is any contact .I never thought about doing one, and I'm glad you mentioned contact ,this is why I posted hoping for someone to respond on other problem's that could possibly be occuring that I've not thought about.

Are your arrows fletched with a straight or helical fletch? Also where is the center shot located on your bow? The Duallys need to be set very close to aligning the left side of the string with the left side of the riser at the grip,,, with the point of the arrow. This is quite a ways out to the left on a right handed bow, also make sure your arrows are plenty stiff for that monster!!!

IMO bow grip is more responsible for left - right misses.

If you are new to a round sight - How do you aim at diff. yardages. Are you centering the pin or the sight?. At longer yardages - you will really see a vertical diff. if you are not consistant in the way you sight the pin.

Poor nock location and fletching contact are another big cause of vertical misses.

You have to pull pretty good into that dually to keep the wall. If you are inconsistant in how much you push/pull - this can also lead to high or low misses.

good luck

WWAG you might have something here I notice that when I line up my center shot it look's to be a little out ,if I'm doing this right .When I line up the string with my pin's the string is to the left side of the grip but not to the edge.I'm shooting helical arrow's.

Rack ! I try to center my peep in the center of the ring with the pin centered in the peep.I've already learned about the wall so I try to have a solid anchor.

nubo,

Maybe I am coming out of left field with this one but to my knowledge just because the arrow is flipped upside down should not make any difference in terms of arrow flight or accuracy unless there is fletching contact involved. I cannot think of any other reason why the cock-feather-up configuration would be more accurate.

I'l try consintrating a little more ,but you guy's have come up with some thing's for me to look for and this is the reason that ''''''''''''i;ve posted this in the first place ,Maybe the reason that I was alittle more consistant this morning is that I was aware of my shooting and not just shooting . I haven't been shooting at all all winter and I've only been shooting for about 3 week's so far this season and a couple times a week.

Thank's for the advice

John are you using a release or fingers?
You nocking should be a tad bit above square (1/8" -1/4") using a release.
If you're shooting with fingers, the nocking point usually works better by increasing that distance a bit.

Check for fletch contact, and also check your center shot.
What's the total weight of the arrows you're using, ( also weight of the field point) and draw weight?
Are you lifting your arrows off the rest while drawing the bow, this happens if you're using a loop and it's tied too close to the arrow nock and pinches the arrow as you're drawing the bow.

Well guy's! I think that my problem is with my form .I went out shooting and I consentrated solely on my grip, keeping my bow level and how I center my peep and pin's .My grouping got much better and out of about 50 shot's I only had 1 arrow wobble. All my shooting came from 30yrds, I was finally getting some decent grouping but still had a couple of flyer's but for the most part I was shooting much better .I have shot about 300 arrow's through my dually and guess I should take it in and have them tune it for me . Thank's guy's
