Is there anything wrong?

Alright guys. I haven't shot my bow through a chrono in a while. Last night I did I it read an average of 268fps. I am shooting a 04' Bowtech Extreme @61.5#'s with a 28.5" draw and a 27" Beman ICS arrow with a 100gr tip weighing in @ around 380gr. I have a tru peep, brass nock, speed nock and BT silencers on the string. I have shot it probably between 200 and 300 times. I know you lose speed after setting everything up but should I be losing that much. The BC said 306fps. I have only had this bow for about 3 weeks and I just realized that this seemed a bit slow after reading some other setups', speeds.

If you have a similar setup let me know what you are getting and let me know what you think. Any info and comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Mike:)

Go back and look at the BC.

What draw weight and draw length is it listed at. I really doubt it is listed as 62# 28.5 DL.

Now add the extra arrow weight and all the stuff on the string.

Thats is still good speed for everything you have on the string and with the DL and Draw weight.

BC says

28.5" draw
300gr arrow
306fps
61.5#

Maybe the speed does work out, I am just checking to make sure I am not crazy;)

Those are some big differences from what they do at the factory for the birth certificate.

I realize that, but 268 just seems a bit slow.

you are 80 grains over in arrow weight as tested. So right there you are losing aprox. 22FPS alone.

Alright that along with the junk on my string would sound a bout right. I didn't know what that 80gr over would equate to in fps.

thanks

30 grains generally equals ruffly 10 FPS.

tru peep, brass nock, speed nock
and that's a lot of metal hanging on the string compared to having NONE of that at the factory.

My bowtech hats made in the USA.

RE: Is there anything wrong?

My first camo model is also made in the USA, and I wear it with pride.

My latest Black one which I recieved after purchasing my 2004 patriot is MADE IN CHINA[:@][&o].

If they went with the lowest bidder on hats, what else did they skimp on?

Both Mathews and BowTech have switched suppliers (they both used the same one) After awhile that original supplier started having stuff made in China. All the newest BowTech hats are made by a company called Grafitti (sp). I just got a few new hats and they are all of good 'ol USA manufacture :)

And don't worry about the parts, Dave. 100% USA :)

P.S. 80 grains will cost ya about 25 to 26 FPS.

So, If I read it right, this new supplier - Graffiti are making there hats here?

And if so, I wonder if I could swap mine out? (I would in a heart beat. Black felt type material= lint magnet)

You say you just got some of the new ones and it's made in USA< I got mine less that 5 days ago and it's not. Are you a dealer or sumptin?

1) Yes

2) They still have a large stock of the Black hats, they won't re-order w/ Graffiti until those are gone (when this will be, I have no idea). The new camo (MO Obsession) hats by Graffitti are made in the USA.

3) Or sumptin :);)

RE: Is there anything wrong?

Techy, I have always been told and personal experience confirms for me that you should be losing/ gaining 1fps per 4-5gr of total arrow weight (all things being equal) or in your case 16- 20fps.
However, the bottom line is that 268fps is not to shabby. If its accurate, quiet and your arrows are tuned you will probably be able shoot slam through anything in your neck of the woods.

RE: Is there anything wrong?

BowTech singles lose rougly on a 1FPS/3 grains ratio, and the duals on a 1FPS/2 ratio going from 5 grains per pound up to around 6 grains per pound. Above that they start getting into the mor general 4-5/1 FPS ratio.

RE: Is there anything wrong?

I have a 03 Ext VFT 29" draw. I shoot 299fps at 70#. I have a peep, string loop, factory hush kit, and one metal knock on the string and a 350gr arrow. I turned it down to 62# and it is shooting 281fps. I shot my previous bow which was a PSE beast that shot 229. This was at 63# with a loop, brass knock, and whiskers. This was with an arrow that was about 390gr. So, I am happy with the bowtech. I have seen SEVERAL bows shot through the chrono. and have only seen one that is faster than mine(I know .....I know there a people with faster bows:)). That bow was a black knight that had only one brass knock and peep. It was shooting 324fps!!!!!!! This was with a whisker bis. at 29" draw. I hear of a lot of guys that say thiers shoot over 300FPS, but none of then want to actually bring it in to the shop and shoot it in the graph[:-] ??????

thanks
citori
