The things I go through for the TROPHY TAKER

Hey guys,

Tonight I decided to get a new arrow out, and go set-up my camcorder in my basement to catch the Trophy Taker in action when I was shooting. Well, after a few shots I saw that my vanes were still wrinkeling at the edges so I got ticked off.

I transfered that footage onto my computer and watched it at regular speed but it was way to fast to tell. Well, I then slowed the footage down by 1/8th the normal speed and spent 30 minutes rendering that into a new clip.

Well, with the new video in 1/8th the normal speed, the arrow was still moving to fast to tell. So, I took that video and slowed it down by 1/8th of that speed. So, that is 1/64th the normal speed. That means that my arrow should be moving about 4 feet per second in this footage, and I am in the process of rendering that right now.

To tell you all how determined I am, this video clip went from a regular 30 second clip to a 1 hour 18 minute and 25 second clip just by slowing it down.

It is still rendering now, and probablly will be for the next two hours or so! The video is literally going to take 5 gig of memory  But hey, I WILL get to the bottom of this [:-]

BM , I've been following your posts about your problems on your rest.and I had asked my dealer what could be the problem and he told me that he has had problems with the rest and other people have had the same problem. The problem is that the rest is not dropping fast enuff because the bows are spitting the arrows to FAST!! And just like the QUAD drops are having the same Problem I guess. And you know what kind of speeds that the BT gets. So these people have just finally switched to other kinds of dropaways. Now these were the 03 models so they had swtiched to the MZE's. But now the MZE's aren't working well on the 04's due to the riser change on the PATS and the liberty is the same as the PAT(Riser). Thats why I'm putting the APA on my new PAT. I do not know if this helps at all for ya, but I tried.

I don't think that that is the probem...................

The dually is faster and the dropaways work much better on them:eek::eek:

What oh what could it be, that your dealer would not want to tell you:eek:

BM - I feel your pain and I am here for you:D:D

Rack for one thing the dealer is my brother in law:D;) And I was just stating on the problems that his customers were having and when he kept on trying to get it to not make contact he was having problems with them continually then when he had put the MZE's on guess what? no contacts. Some people will have problems others will not.:);)

If you have it set where it is coming up too soon it will not work properly.
it must be set where it comes up as close to full draw as you can possibly getfor optimal preformance.

people with short drawlengths also have fletch contact problems

BM

Better hope it not a bottomless pit!!:D
Do you still have it hooked to the cable slide? I had one on my 03 sc pat, and never got it to clear.
Now it's on my 04 MM and is working so far.;........fishon

Now Rack, what could you be making subtle references to? :)

BM, good luck with that my friend, but I gotta say...you are ate up! I think you need a vacation(without the bow, of course) ;);):D

I'd suggest one swift adjustment with my favorite tool... A big@$$ sledgehammer. It'll take care of the rest in one fell swoop and you'll feel SO much better. [8D]

Oh... I would think it best to take the rest OFF the bow first. ;)

BM, have you ever tried another type of drop away? That could rule out the "arrow is to0 fast" theory. I never had any problems out of with my trophy taker, but then again I wasn't getting the speed you are talking about. Good luck, I feel for ya.

You sure are having a lot of troubles with that rest. Now, if you would have bought a Hoyt, you wouldn't be here right now.:D Just kidding.

I would be really interested to see that video once you get it done. I slightly remember a picture of your setup and it seems to me you had the cord tied in about the rest on the cable. Did you change that at one point in time?

I had problems when I set mine up, but it was "user error" :D. It sure is a sweet shooting rest and I am partial to mine now. I hope you get it fixed up.

I think that if you take off that bowtech cable slide, put on a sims teflon slide, and serve that power cord on to the downward cable then you'll get it fixed.

RE: The things I go through for the TROPHY TAKER

Okay guys,

Well, the video quit rendering last night when it errored out so I did it this morning! I just watched it! I actually slowed it down to 1/512th the normal speed. That means that my arrow should be moving at around 1/2 feet per second in the video. Here is what I noticed!

The rest just doesn't drop fast enough! Simple as that! By the time the vanes get to the prongs, they have only dropped a tiny bit and the vanes hit the prongs!

I do have the rest tied into the cable slide! I went into the rest and adjusted the spring so it was set on the fastest drop. Right now, the rest is set to raise to the full position right at the back-wall. This should be the fastest drop possible! I would tie into the down buss cable, but I just don't know if it is worth it! I don't want to tie it in if it is still just going to drop too slow. I just don't see it making too much of a differance.

So, the TT is comming off the bow and the trusty ol N.A.P. QuickTune 3000 Micro is going back on!

Rack, I remember posts about you being frustrated but I figured that you were in the minority considering how many guys are getting theirs to work on the BowTechs! Guess I can join you down in that group of unfortunate people [>:]

RE: The things I go through for the TROPHY TAKER

All the TT I have seen were tied to down buss cable, seems that would result in a faster drop to me.

1/512th the normal speed
holy cr@ap[:-][:-]

good job BM:D I would love to see the video myself.

I have been told that tying to the cable slide is a little slower than the down cable - but I doupt it would make much of a difference. I had it set on the highest spring tension and it still hit on my Pat - but it worked on the dually (20 fps faster)- go figure:eek::eek:

If nock travel is not the major culprit - I am ready to eat crow[:o] - but my bib is not on quite yet;)

Abuddy of mine has a liberty and shoots a sh rest , he has his tied into the down cable
his is set at 72# 30 inch draw and his shoots great. Quit being stubborn and tie it into the cable, I have mine set the same way on my justice, problem solved:):):)

Arthur- wouldn't you want to use a lighter, faster sledgehammer, for range estimation:D

BM---how do you go into the rest and adjust the spring for a faster drop as you said??

RE: The things I go through for the TROPHY TAKER

I have mine tied to the down cable on my Liberty(30", 73#). It comes up to full position about 2 inches from the backwall. I was having contact issues but my feathers were hitting the arrow holder that is stuck to the shelf with the sticky pad. I raised the TT up some and changed over to shooting cock vane up and my issue is resolved. It is now shooting great with no contact at all.

RE: The things I go through for the TROPHY TAKER

Here is the Dalton drop-away rest which the factory pro-shop (a pro-shop connected to the bowtech factory in Eugene) puts on a majority of the bows they sell at their store. I have this on my 03 extreme vft. It replaced my trophy taker which I was having fletching contact problems with. I shoot bullet holes and groups better than I ever have with this rest. The guys at the proshop all shoot them on their bows also, so that says something. It attaches to the hole in the bottom of the new bowtech cable slides. There is also a 5000 series rest which is aluminum intead of hard plastic. The 2000 runs about $45 dollars, best 45 dollars I ever spent!!
