Today I was in the bow shop and all the sudden I heard a Ker-whack! looked over and this guy had just dry fired the bow, the shop owner was trying to make him buy the bow. As they were talking I went and looked at the bow, I didn't see anything wrong with it. What does this usually do to a bow? I always thought that it cracked the limbs or something. I was just wondering what happens....thanks

It could hurt the limbs or bend the axles(usual problems from dry firing)--but probably didn't do any damage--i stress probably!A definite NO-NO!!

I firmly believe that if you dry fire it, you bought it! I certainly don't won't to buy a bow that has been dry fired by someone else nor would I imagine anyone else here.

yeah that might be a worth while thing to do. as far as i know the guy did end up buying the bow. Glad my bow was already purchased

I was shooting techno-hunt 2 weeks ago. Another person was up & we heard the same awful noise. Anyway, this guy plain forgot to put an arrow on the bow.. The pressure must have been getting to him. Anyway, no damage to bow or person. It was a Mathews Conquest II. I still would not want anything that has been dry-fired.

I've dry fired a old hoyt impala years ago and intentionally dry fired it not knowing what could happen .I ended up cracking a limb and busting the bus cable and not sure about the axle. But I was young and stupid then hahaha. I had no idea what could happen and that this was a no no .

I was purchasing a Parker bow a few month's ago and while I was with the salesperson a man took the identical bow #70 draw weight pulled it back and handed it to his 10 year old son, of course the kid couldn't handle the bow and he dried fired it no visible damage with the exception of the cable slide flying to pieces.
