RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Thanks!
Were you flinging any of these through a chrony? If so, what kind of speeds was it delivering? Will Norb be doing a bow report? If so, do you guys get a copy you can share before the magazine decides to print it? |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Pinwheel
I think Merlin needs to change the name of that new bow since HCA has a bow out for 2 years now called the Max-Xtreme which I believe is a trademark name. ![]() |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
The "Bowboogers" silencers were a riot. Ok, what the heck is a bow booger? Don't even tell me that some company came out with green silly puddy that you squish in various nooks on the bow??? |

RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Rangeball-
Norb will be doing a tech write up, yes. I don't know the details of when or if we will get a "preview" as yet. For that matter I don't even know exactly when it will be coming out. Nope, had no chrony nearby, I think Bowtech was hoarding them all to play their speed games.:D BigPapaScout-- Merlin wasn't aware of the Max-Xtreme name being used by High Country or anyone else when we named the bow----we based the bow on the Max 3000 riser, and threw in the "Xtreme" because it is much shorter and more radical-looking than the Max 3000. That's it. Very hard to run around with a list of every bow model made by every company over the past decade, and there are many others out there whom have used the same name over the years if you think about it for a second---in fact PSE has a Nova, and Merlin had one before it. No biggie there, no lawsuits or gripes. How about the Phoenix by Parker---it was also used by Horizon. Mathews Featherlite was used by Alpine also around the same time--etc etc, etc.. Not even worth my time really to think of any more but there are many. I don't think Spencer will have a cow over something like that to be honest, and I don't see why anyone else should either. If the Merlin Max-Xtreme takes off, HCA may gain an increase in sales due to "mistaken identity!";) Frank-- Yep, everyone was busting a gut over the "Bowboogers"! :DGood shooting, Pinwheel 12 |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
How the heck don't they fly off the bowstring?
|
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
LMAO
Bow Boogers, snot your average string silencer. LOL:D If it will work on the string I dont see why it couldnt be used inthe nooks and crannys on a riser to absorb some vibe and noise. pinwheel I dont see why it would be a problem using the name either I just thought you would like to know there was already a bow on the market named Max-Xtreme BTW that is a good loking bow just a little too heavy for my taste;) |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Frank-
LMAO---Boogers stick like crazy!![8D]:D:D BigPapascout- I actually found out about it about two weeks ago, but thanks for the input. No biggie, we don't care if High Country has the same name, and I suppose they don't care one way or the other either. Thanks for the compliment about the bow also---4lb doesn't bother most and in fact the Merlin is right in the same mass-weight range as most other bows-- many bows on the market are between 3lbs 10oz and 4lbs 6oz--- You must be shooting a carbon riser??;) Whatever floats the boat, that's why we all have so many choices.:) Good shooting, Pinwheel 12 |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Pinwheel 12 - I missed you guys at the ATA show - where the heck was your booth? I thought I had hit everything while I was there.
|
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show

:D |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Pinwheel yes I am shooting a carbon riser bow but I also have a Newberry and an aluminum Max Xtreme, HCA Max Xtreme that is:D
cant make the competetion look too good you know:D |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
We were demo'ing the Boogers on a beautiful Wes Wallace recurve because it had alot more string vibe compared to the compounds. People would pluck the string bare, and then the demo folks would put on the boogers. When Gene Shands showed me it the first time I couldn't believe how well it worked.
It's meant to be a replaceable product. It's not like leeches or whatnot. You get about 30 applications per "tin". Just throw it in your pack, and use it when hunting. Eventually when it flies off, put some more on..takes two seconds and you can do it in your stand. We put it on the limbs of the recrve like a limbsaver and it made a big diff there too. Clincher was when we put some on a Liberty. The bow was already really quiet, and when we flicked a couple of boogers on it :D noise dropped to nothing. I mean NOTHING. And that was with a 350 grain arrow! Speed loss was 0 to 1 FPS. |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
The Bow Boogers really cracked me up.....I have seen it all now!
:D |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
" and when we fliched a couple boogers on it",,, Man Jeff,,, you're killin' me LOL:D What a great and catchy item!!! BowTech marketing has taken a new level!!![8D]
|
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
JeffB, did you get my e-mail about the "Woodie"????:D[&:]
|
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Orions_Bow-
We were over towards the demo area, booth #865, right next to Diamond Archery, about 40 yds from the PSE truck. Sorry we missed you. Next year.;) No boogers, just top shelf bows, sights, and releases.;) Pinwheel 12 |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
I'd have to say that the Max-Xtreme with the Omega cam would be a contender for one of the best buys out there this year. I had to go back and forth between it and other booths/bows several times to do a comparative study. It's very smooth, very quiet, and has no hand shock.
|
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
LOL that explains it - that dang Semi just makes everthing goofy!
|
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Aww come on Pin,, you might need a tin of those BowBoogers to keep your huntin' rig stuck togther!!!:D Just think,,,, loose your bow quiver?? Just pull out the BowBoogers and dig in for a big'un and stick it on your bow then stick an extra arrow on the BowBooger!!! There you have it,,,, bow quiver;) Yer rubber Lambskin start ta' peelin' back just dig in for another big'un and stick it back down and commence ta' huntin' jest like normal[8D] Merlen and BowBoogers just might be a match made in heaven!!!! :D
|
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Pinwheel, any idea if Diamond has any new cam offerings, or are all their new bow designs using the same PF cams of old? |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Len-
It was nice to see you at the show, we'll need to take more time next year and chew the fat more than we did. Thanks for the thumbs up, I knew you'd like it. WWAG- Yeah, they are fun really, I got a heckova kick out of them. Plus it will give you something to do on stand if you bring a can along--you can just roll one around between your fingers when times are slow, or you can set "traps" for any red squirrels or chickadees that may come along![8D]:D:D Orions_bow- Yep, Semis are always in the way, aren't they?[8D]:D Straightarrow- The Gladiator 2 did pull smooth, much like many bows did this year. I didn't happen to draw the Machete twin tho. Unfortunately there was no place to shoot them tho, you are correct. Maybe next year. Good shooting, Pinwheel 12 |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Great.....just great...now I am going to see even more archers "picking at their boogers" on the 3D range this season....
;) |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
The only boogers I want on my bow is from a bugleing bull at 5 yds. If this stuff becomes popular we're going to have to where eye protection on the range.LOL Jerry
|
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
I dunno Jerry, I tend to think they'll probably stay on as a "novelty" item more than anything else, even tho they do work to an extent. Who knows, crrazier things have happened tho!:D
I really like the new Carter Chocolate Addiction target release, and NAP had a new broadhead along with their "Quickspin" vanes that looked interesting. Easton Axis arrows will undoubtedly be a hit. Vibracheck Stabilizers are awesome, HI-Tek stabilizers had some GREAT pricing! APA rests are cool too, and are one of my new favorites. Nibal (CEO of APA) spoke with me at length on a couple of occasions about his designs, and he was nice enough to let us install some of his designs on the Merlin bows at our demo booth. I particularly liked his "sideloader". Very rugged, simple rest. Shot well with many different sized arrows. Scentlok "Dakota Fleece" is nice stuff too, as are the Lone Wolf treestands. Tons of stuff! Unfortunately I didn't get to see much of it, but I'm going thru the two foot deep pile of catalogs and price lists the staff grabbed for me, and there is some nice new improvements for 2004 out there. Good shooting, Pinwheel 12 |

RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Rangeball-
As you know I have no use for drop-away rests of any kind, especially now that there are vanes that spin with a straight fletch as much as any 'regular' full helical--fletching contact is thus no longer an issue, which is why the drop-aways were invented in the first place. I was talking about the APA Ultimate fixed-containment rest, especially the new sideloader. The only thing I see that it needs is some sort of silencing material around the entire containment border for it to be extremely and totally effective---Nibal told me that they have stick-on fleece wraps that take care of this and eliminates any noise while drawing or should an arrow bounce off the sides while in a tree or whatever. I like these rests--they are simple, and very rugged. Accuracy at hunting ranges I figure will be at least on par with a biskit. A biskit does have an added advantage of never having to look down to be sure the arrow is in correct position, but this rest has a nice arrow catch so that shouldn't be much of a problem either IMO. They also make a micro-adjust model for target work. I like the standard sideloader for practical hunting applications. Nice product. Good shooting, Pinwheel 12 |

Rangeball- As you know I have no use for drop-away rests of any kind, Wasn't the knock on their fixed position rest when it first came out that it was hard on anything other than straight or slightly offset fletch due to lack of clearance? Did they address this somehow, assuming one still wants to shoot feathers instead of the new vanes? |
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
The APA guy told me that they'll be making a side loading version of the drop away also. I believe this will be my next rest.
|
RE: Any News yet from the ATA show
Rangeball-
Yep, they increased the width a mite, on some of their models it is easily adjustable, but the sideloader has the heavy gauge wire running down around the bottom continuously so it will be difficult to adjust it without a 16" prybar, or at least an 8" one. [8D] I think for hunting purposes this rest is more than adequate, and for the dropaway loyalists their new version would make a fine design for them as well IMHO. Pinwheel 12 |
