Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
I shot a new 04 Bowtech Patriot SC and a Justice today at my dealer I noticed that my 4" vanes were touching the cables after we adjusted the center shot. I was shooting a Quicktune 3000 arrowrest with cock feather down. I asked the dealer about this and he said that he was meaning to call Bowtech about that problem. All the new models he got in were like this. He said he could put a different cable slide on it and take care of the problem. It seems Bowtech would have noticed this when producing the bows. Anyone else having this problem?

I'll check my Patriot when I get home!

RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
I have been shooting the new Liberty and the Justice, I haven't had that trouble on either of them and haven't heard of anyone else having that maybe Matt or Pat will see your post and give their ideas.

RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
I have been complaining about this problem since the first time I shot a Bowtech last year.
ALL the BT bows I have shot have this problem. Their cable slides do not pull the cables in enough and I do not understand why they have to do this?????????? anyone?? Buy a sims slide and it will be correct |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
I am a bit confused with this one. I have owned four Bowtech bows over the last three model years. None of them has exhibited a fletching clearance problem with the cables. I use 3, 4 inch plastic AAE or Bohning vanes with a straight fletch setting.
Are you guys using a higher profile vane or feather?....what is your centershot measurement? Is it possible that some of the bows had the cable guard rod hole in the riser machined at the wrong angle? |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
Never really been an issue for me either EXCEPT shooting 5" feathers with the big profile. With a drop-away I can rotate them to an almost cock feather side-ways position and they clear fine. W/ a conventional rest though they do rub (and they did on my Hoyt CyberTec as well)
I've shot all sorts of carbons, even some alums...Right helical, left helical, straight fletch, 4" vanes, 4" feathers, 5" vanes, cock feather up, cock feather down...I have not really had a problem that I can remmeber except with those 5" feathers. You have to be careful w/ some aftermarket cable slides because they will cause too much side load on the shorter bows. the 2004 bows c-shot is pretty far out...starts at about 7/8" and goes a little further depending on the indvidual bow. I would check that if there is a problem. |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
I shoot 5 inch vanes on my hunting arrows with a Plainsman drop away with one vane pointing straight down. This set up is on my '03 Patriot Dually and there is no problem with the vanes clearing the cables.

RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
I'm hitting the cable if the cock feather is pointed straight down. Good thing I'm shooting a drop away and I can orient the cock feather pointing out. It clears this way.
Of course I am using 5" shield cut feathers, so I can't complain too much. It just barely nips the cable. Fritz |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
The closer the cabel is to the string the less cabelgaurd toqure , the father away from the string ,you get more toqure . I'm sure bowtech figured this and and sent them as close as resonable , they probably made it too close . A new slide like a simms teflon "may" fix the problem , if it does not an offset cabelrod rotated to the proper distance will . For the amount of money you pay for a bowtech I would try to get them to suply the fix . Like I've said before its not if but when these things will happen , now its up to bowtech to make its customers happy by fixing the existing "problem" . They had it before in 02 with the risors drilled in the wrong spot , and sent out a quick fix , and were happy to do it , I suspect they will take care of this in the same manor , as I have allways found them egar to please , unlike some other companies = M------

RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
Anyone got a digital camera they can take pics of this phenomena and send to me or post? I checked my 2002 Pat SC, my ExVFT (2003), my Liberty and the demo MM VFT I have and they are fine..but I'm curious
Also you may try making sure that the cable guard is seated all the way (loosen the locking screw, loosen the set screw..see if the guard is properly seated , then tighten back up) |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
On my Liberty it's close. I shoot it cock vane out which gives plenty of clearance. On my P40 Dually, I can shoot cock vane down with lots of room. Both bows have Trophy Taker dropaways on them.
I did notice when I shot all the new bows with prong rests and big feathers, some were hitting the cables. |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
Jeff,
I'll try to get my hands on a digital camera this weekend & send you a pic. I'll also check the cable rod as you mentioned. I get a little contact with the cables on my Liberty shooting through my NAP 3000 rest. |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
I noticed this also. I have to keep my cock vane pointing out on my Liberty. I am using 4" Duravanes and if I have the cock vane down, the vanes will nick the cables. Luckily, I am shooting a dropaway and I can just put the cock vane down. I will get a few pics and post them tommorow or Sunday sometime.
It isn't a big problem for me, but, I can see how others would find it to be. |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
CWB, what do you have center shot set at? I know the NAP 1000 will not go far enough left. I assume the 3000 will? Just curious.

RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
Jeff,
I took a couple pics a while ago & will email them to you shortly. I'd post them here if I knew how. The 3000 has enough adjustment that is should work just fine. That's what I'm using on my Liberty. I get just a little bit of contact if I shoot the cock feather straight down. I've widened out the prongs on my rest a little, and rotated the arrow so the cock feather is angled slightly away from the cable. It's just enough to eliminate the contact problem. I'll keep shooting it this way until the season is over. But I plan to shoot a fatter arrow for 3D this summer, which will push the feathers further out so I think I'll have to do something a little different. I do have a Sims cable slide from another bow so I'll probably try that as Rack mentioned. Just sliding it up behind the stock cable slide, it looks like it will pull the cables in enough to eliminate the problem. |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
For the folks having clearance issues using vanes:
What vanes & shafts are you using and what is your centerhsot measurment (from edge of arrow pass at berger button to middle of arrow shaft) ? Jeep..I emailed you 'bout the pics. |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
I own a 2003 Pro 40 Dually and have no problem shootin 3" feathers cock feather down, but am interested to see if there could be an issue due to the new riser design moving the string over into the center of the grip or if its just due to improper setup. Hopefully the latter.

RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
Jeff,
I'm currently shooting some Easton Epics at approx. 0.3" diameter. I'm using 4" Truflight feathers with a 9/16" profile. Center shot is at 7/8". |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
Mine will just brush a bit on my MM. I have the MZE and shoot fat alums and a 5" hellical feather though. Cock vain at perfect horizantal and it clears.

RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
BowTech Dually, I just got an 04 P40 Dually. There's plenty of room to shoot cock vane down. I'm using PSE Comp Pros with 4" AAE vanes and a Trophy Taker rest. This thing smokes. How's this for 20 and 30 yd pin gap?
Oops, forgot the pic. ![]() |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
Thanks pdq 5oh, Thats how it is with my 2003 Pro 40 Dually, If I use my 20 yard pin at 30 yards its just a 2" drop. Does the 2004 seem noticeably easier to draw than the 2003 model. My only concern is being able to draw my bow comfotably without a lot of movement when seated and cold. Best of luck with the new bow, Im sure you will enjoy it.
Thanks BD |
RE: Bowtech Cable clearance problem?
pdq 5oh If Im not mistaken didn't you own a 2003 Pro 40, I know you havent had much time with the new one but how do you like it thus far as compared to last years model.
Thanks again BD |
