Infinity cam draw stop flaw? (long)

02 mighty mite...lots of shots through it, but still...

After doing a techno hunt the other day I noticed some severe cable wear (so much so I didn' t finish) in a single spot that looked like a cut.

Scour the cam looking for a burr, wax buildup with sand in it, a bend on the lip, misalignment from the module and cam surfaces...nothing.

Have one of the " tecs" take a look ...nothing. He replaces the cable and we' re good. After a minute or so I realize my godforsaken string leeches have been launched 3/4 of the way out again and I' m over it now. 3rd time in 2 weeks the ends get blown off or they just sail away into the sky.

Hello whiskers...serve ' em in. The first guy I was dealing with is gone...the owner(who does indeed know his stuff) says he' ll hook me up. Has me shoot and arrow or two and says " your draw stop is screwed up, come back here" .

He puts in on the scale and pulls. " See where the cam rolls over? Your way to far beyond that point...we need to shorten it up."

??? Why? I thought the beauty of the infinty was the adjustbility of the stop to change length, letoff (and valley for sure!).

He says if you have it set too far past the roll it' ll eat your cable at the pivot..right about here (pointing to where my cables was 4 strands shy 20 minutes ago)

He didn' t know I just had that problem fixed (he was upstairs). But he adjusts it and I put a loop on to make up the difference.

Shooting rockets again after 10-15 minutes but what the hell was that about the drawstop??

RE: Infinity cam draw stop flaw? (long)

And I quote :D

“ The infinity cam has a machined slot to incorporate all the settings necessary for all of the Bowtech models. Each model at each draw length makes up a very small area of the machined slot….

Make sure that the post stops the draw cycle. If the post is not stopping the draw cycle you are over-rotating the cam and may damage your strings and cables. You will need to adjust the post closer to the S slot to recitify this”…..Bowtech Owners Manual

This also happens if the post is not set correctly but the stop is contacting the limb: IF you have the post setting set for too much letoff. There is a very small range you have to work in for each draw length module. If you set it just a bit too high (letoff) it will hit the cable track first and then bottom on the limb immediately after. It is infinitely adjustable with the parameters for each module, not over the entire draw stop adjustment range for any module regardless.

The manual has the recommended settings for each letoff and draw length.

Hope that helps.

Ahhh...So I AM retarded:D Just as I suspected.:D

Thanks Jeff,

Soo...the draw stop isn' t supposed to hit the limb? I put moleskin there and lock it down every time I draw!

RE: Infinity cam draw stop flaw? (long)

T-A,

YES the draw stop should definitely hit the limb. You just need to make sure you don' t have the letoff/valley set too high/wide otherwise the cable will bottom on the track first ,then it overrotates just a tad as you draw to the wall (Causing the wear), then the stop hits the limb directly after.

You cannot " feel" this really unless it' s way out of whack. You have to see it like your pro-shop did under most circumstances.

You can download the manual at www.bowtecharchery.com (both 2002 & 2003 manuals are listed). It will show the post settings for each model, draw length, and letoff.

:D

You da man Jeff. I downloaded the manual...was I supposed to READ it too!:D

Should be set now...

I must have ahd it just slightly overrotated. I usually keep the valley really tight but widened it just a bit 3 weeks ago in case I had to hold a long draw while waiting for him to turn broadside:D

Thans again.

RE: Infinity cam draw stop flaw? (long)

Jeffb, I made my own module for my 2002 mighty mite. I took a 30" and ground it down to a 29.5. (the 2002' s are whole increment only and the 29" was way too short, the 30" was too long)
Not knowing where the draw stop peg should go I placed it between the manuals recommendations for the 29" & 30" draws. IYHO did I do the right thing?

What do I need to look for as far as over rotating goes?
I would like to go a little more towards the long side to get a little more valley, but I can' t afford anymore draw length gain.
After season I may grind it down just a tad more to accomplish this.

RE: Infinity cam draw stop flaw? (long)

DaveC,

IMHO, grinding parts on the bow is not the best thing to do (especially cams/mods), and it voids your warranty, but people do it all the time ...:D

Of course now half-inch mods are available, but they won' t fit the 2002' s.

That said, I think you probably set the stop in a good position. Just have someone draw it for you while you watch the cam rotate and make sure that the cable doesn' t fully bottom, over-rotate, and then the stop hits the limb. It' e easier to show than to explain. But if you take the stop out and draw the bow you will see when the cable fully bottoms then turns at a sharp angle as the cam over-rotates.

As for lengtheninig it...as long as you adhere to the advice I posted from the manual you should be OK.

Personally I' m the opposite. I set the stop pretty short at around 60-65%% letoff. I just shoot more accurately that way and the drop into the valley is not nearly as abrupt.

Kelly

Abilene is about a 3 1/2, 4 hour drive from where I am.
I have only been there once for a 3d shoot.
If you expect me to fork out for the beer its gonna be one mighty DRY night[:o];):D

Want me to save that boar for ya and you can show me how its done:D
With a bit of luck I will have that boars head on the wall after next week end he is gonna make a great mount.
Even if I have to get him the trap[&:]:D

RE: Infinity cam draw stop flaw? (long)

Jeffb, I assure you that grinding down the draw module was the last thing I wanted to do. Especially after paying over $600.00 on a bow, grinding on it to get the draw length right should never had been a consideration. But the infinity cam left me no choice. With the 29" draw set as far out as recommended the draw was too short. With the 30" set as short as recommended it was too long(for me) and had NO creep.

If I ever need warranty work I' ll just toss in the 29" draw module and return it.

Thanks for the advice.

Kelly,

I don' t generally make house calls or in your case restaurant calls :D but, I' ll be coming through your area on my way to Grand Rapids probably Thurs. of next week.

If you need help with the draw stop, drop me an e-mail and I' ll stop by to see what I can do. Heck I may stop by for lunch/dinner anyway...;):D

What kind of wild game' s on the menu?

Regards, Pat

Hey Pat, Nice to hear from you again.

Brian at Schupbac' s has me pretty well set up...he' s the one that worked on it. I always like to check here for opinions and questions on stuff though as well. They' ve always been great and I figure he was right I just never read the manual that closely (typical Kelly behavior:D)

Feel free to stop by though. Dress warm, It' s snowing in Grand Rapids as of yesterday[:o] I don' t have any game on as of yet...I should have venison soon though(opener was yesterday;)) Maybe by then.

Let me know if your coming and I' ll be sure to be there instead of a tree:D

Kelly,

I' m going to try my best to make it a point to stop by. I' ll probably have lunch (I' ll try not to take you out of your tree) at your restaurant... No wild game?.. Oh well, beef steaks are always good enough for me...;)

Do you have enough room in your parking lot for me to park a Ford F250 with a 33ft. trailer?

Schubach' s is an awesome shop and Brian is one hell of a great guy... I' m not possitive yet, but they may be the dealer thats helping me at the PBR event, I' ll know more today....

Regards, Pat

Oh that boar that charged me last week was up to his old tricks again on Friday afternoon when I went to swap the film in the game camera.

Unfortunately for him I was prepared and 4 x 40 cal slugs later he was down and out.;)

Pity tho I would have loved to have taken him with the Patriot[:' (]

Kelly, I' m doing well. Spending time with the family camping this past summer. We got a motor home & love it. We all piled in & went to Snowshoe for the Worlds. Had a great time. Tristan did well in FBH. I did not in HC. But the camping was fun. Take care.
