Default Is the bowstring supposed to hit the cable guard? (Compound Bow)

I'm pretty new with compound bows.

When I fire it, the bowstring (serving) hits the cable guard and makes a loud-ish noise. Is this normal? or do I have to make some adjustments...?

Thanks to any responses

is it actually hitting it or is it just the string making noise? If its got wear marks where Its hitting it...something isn't right...How old is the bow and string? Id get it checked by a competent bow shop

It actually hits the cable guard and splits the string in the middle.

Take it to an archery outfitter before you shoot it any more... that shouldn't be happening.

100% agree something is really messed up or getting ready to come apart...and could injure you! Let us know what they find.

a pic or two would help. Are you sure its the cable guard or is it the string stop? And is the string stop missing its rubber end cap? If it is the cable guard, are the cables in the cable slide on the cable guard?

The string also needs to be served at the string stop.

Pics would be nice...where did you buy this bow? It may have been dry fired...
