RE: Rocket Steelhead problem

Which insert are u using??

I have Camo XTs' and my 125 gr Steelheads work just fine. Maybe the threads are longer on the 125s' ????

RE: Rocket Steelhead problem

Just a follow up on my problem. The threads were not a problem. It seemed that the part of the head just above the threads was just to large in diameter to allow the head to even get far enough in for the threads to be an issue. Or actually, the hole in the insert is too small.

Bowscout, A lot of times that problem is associated with too much glue/epoxy being applied to the inserts. Some glue will get into the end of the insert and make it hard to screw in a tip .

Corey006, I am pretty sure the 125' s have longer threads.

Well I don' t know what to say. As I type I am sitting here with a rocket steelhead 100 grain screwed snugly onto the tip of a Goldtip XT 5575. I used this same combo last year and have honestly never experienced this problem. These are new arrows purchased this summer and new rockets purchased last week.

Hey Todd - can you do me a favor:D

measure the distance from the steel washer to the tip of the threaded shaft.

I would like to know if my head is shorter:)

From the back of the metal washer to the tip of the threads is exactly 9/16 of an inch on my steelheads.

Rack-Attack!
I guess, this is your warning from ABOVE, wich tells you DO NOT use mechanical heads. Use fixed blades! It could be that your biggest buck of your life waiting to be shot by you in this bow season. Be prepared.
Steelhead fits very well on carbon express or ACC, or pick up 85 grain TI from Rocky Mountain.
My Bowtech shoot well right now with TT. I shoot 286 fps at 29" 70 lbs, 385 grain arrow.
My 430 grain ACC flies at 275 fps. All of them shoot great.

Rack-Attck!
I just tried Steelhead on my two years old GT 7595 Competition Pro and it WILL screw in ! I can see the insert is catching about 3 threads but it could work.
On my ACC fit better, it takes more threads.
To me it looks like GT issue not Steelhead.

RE: Rocket Steelhead problem

Nope. It isn' t fair to lay ALL the blame at Goldtip' s feet. The 100 gr Steelheads I' ve got also measure 9/16" from the shoulder to the end of the threads. My other heads, broadheads, field points, blunts... all measure 23/32" .

Depth of inserts from shoulder to threads: Easton aluminum - 7/16" . PSE Carbon Force - 7/16" . Beman ICS - 7/16" . Gold Tip standard - 15/32" !

So, GoldTip is running their inserts 1/32" deeper than everyone else in the industry, but Rocket is making the shanks on their Steelheads more than 1/8" shorter than everyone else.

They' ve both got a problem, but Rocket' s problem is worse.

___

Acutally, after looking at the AMO standards, Goldtip' s inserts are right on the very edge of being in spec for depth. Depth of the counterbore is called out . 414 - .455" deep.

Length of the shank to the threads on the head is called out as .355 - .375" . My Steelheads measure .250" . It' s the Steelheads that are NOT made to AMO spec.

RE: Rocket Steelhead problem

The SH 100' s barely fit into my A/C/C 3-49' s..the 125' s have been no problem on several different manufacturers inserts.

As Arthur said, It' s a combination of the two (GT and the SH100), but rocket has the lion' s share of the problem.
