RE: Unrelated to my Frustration- Checked out some bows
ORIGINAL: PABowhntr Jeff, If you are still lookin' through bows then please look around a bit and find one of the Ross Carnivore's to try. I know it sounds like I am beating a dead horse but I believe it would fit your preferences quite nicely. ...plus you will love that little "Crank" device....the simplicity of it..and yet it makes such a big difference. Not sure how the company is structured, but I wonder if that crank device will eventually find its way to the Bowtech/Diamond line.
Jeff, I'm with you. Draw cycle is one of the most important things for me when looking at a new bow. I'm not old by any means, but I like my shoulders the way they are. |

Dan ![]() Muzz- yeah man- The more I'm getting back inot this stuff, the more I realize I'm just not into the stout pulls, narrow valleys, and some of these touchy cams on many of the top end bows these days. Funny how the industry goes in cycles every 10 years or so- we had that speed bow phase from the mid through late 90s, and finally people started to " get it" in the early 2Ks, and everything was getting really smooth with more brace height. Now it's right back to lower and lower brace heights and stiffer cams and the FPS wars. After reading that I just realized I'm def getting old :( |
RE: Unrelated to my Frustration- Checked out some bows
Jeff, the cool thing I see here is that eventually, they'll "get it" again and give us that blazing speed with decent brace heights and smooth draw cycles. This is one of the reasons why I'm never letting my Alley go at this point. I have the smooth mods and with a 28" DL, 370gr arrow at 64lbs, I'm getting 288 out of it. I think thats pretty respectable. The draw cycle feels very good on this bow for me.
The new speed craze is just that, a craze. My shop is a Mathews dealer and it is hilarious to see everyone flooding through the door to buy a Reezen without shooting it, simply because its FAST. I shot it side by side with the AM32 and IMO, the AM32 blew it away in terms of shootability and comfort. But these guys have Mathews tunnel vision and just want the fastest thing they can find. They'll learn. ;) Like you, I thought the Switchback was one of the finest offerings to come out of Mathews. If it wasn't for their half a log sized grips, I would have bought the Switchback. I love my side plate only style grips. |
RE: Unrelated to my Frustration- Checked out some bows
Jeff, I "assume" the Allegiance you checked out has the speed modules? Mine has the smooth mods and I believe it draws even easier and slightly smoother than my Patriot. But I am adding the speed mods to mine later on. Or have you inquired to your dealer when the Air Raid will be in? I am guessing he will have some in when they start shipping.
One other bow you haven't checked out, and one that I may soon is the Rytera Alien-X. For some reason it has my eye, just to see one. I'll have to drive 60 miles but I know a dealer that has some on order. |
RE: Unrelated to my Frustration- Checked out some bows
Greg- I really have no idea which mods are on that Allegiance- I don't know my way around that model and wouldn't know the difference in looks between the speed and smooth mods. Do the bows come standard with one type? Cos I'm sure whatever is "stock" is what my Dealer would have ordered, but IDK for sure. I DO know that both were bottomed out and @ 29", and the SWAT was noticably smoother/easier to draw. To the point it surprised me. That said, I didn't dislike the Allegiance- it was very stout about like the Rev cams, but not nearly as bad as the 82nd cams.
I'm somewhat doubtful I'll see an AirRaid there- BT sales have died off quite a bit-along with some business related issues they have with BT the shop has decided not to go very deep into the lineup this year. He still has plenty of 2008s from Diamond, and the older BTs like the Allegiance and a Commander (I think-long A2A)along with a handful of 09s. The only thing that the shop is moving- and they are moving alot- are Alphamaxes- they are selling them as fast as they come in. Sold 2 while I was in the shop last night. It reminds me of when the MQ1 hit- these AMs are HUGE this year. And believe it or not, a big segment of customers are still waiting for the Monster to show up before deciding which way to go. |

JeffB, depending on the year of the Allegiance, the mods are a different color. I'm not totally sure about the 08's, but the 07's were a different color depending on the type. Smooth mods were black, speed was silver. I know the cams on the 08's were totally black.

RE: Unrelated to my Frustration- Checked out some bows
PSEs are a hard sell around here. Mid to high end ones anyway. Shop still has several of the 08 X series bows on the shelves and in the back and things like Thunderbolt X's etc. He's tried to sell them at cost and they still won't move.
What DOES move are the NOVA/Deer Hunter kits (introductory packages). He has about 30 those in the shop right now, and will get in alot more than that as the year progresses- I suspect that's the only reason he stays with PSE -that package fills a huge niche for him (beginners) It's the same thing with Martin or Bear - good or not, only the lower end bows move. When the prices start getting up into that $600+ range guys are just going to move into Hoyt, Mathews, BowTech/Diamond, etc. I've seen it a million times- They shoot the PSE or Martin or Browning or Bear, whatever, then grab one of the big 3, and the PSE/Martin/Bear goes back on the shelf. Guys always find a way to scrape up another couple hundred dollars. They will transfer accessories from that old bow- use the old arrows if possible, etc. In other areas of the country of course, things are different-PSE and Martin sell like mad, but not here. |
