I have a question concerning the Rocket Stricknine mechanical broadheads. My current setup shoots a 412 grain arrow at abot 262 fps. Would this be enough speed for a mechanical head with such a large cutting diameter of 2" ? These things shoot great out of my bow and I plan to initially try them out on groundhogs. I have very little experience shooting mechanicals and would appreciate some insight from you guys as to whether this combo would do a sufficient job on deer at the current velocity that I am producing or if I would probably be better suited to use a head with a smaller cutting diameter ?

Your set up is putting out about 63 lbs of KE, and would probably be fine for whitetail. I think they are a two blade???

If they are a three blade, personaly I would opt for something with less cut.

I have 67 KE and use the 75 grain Rocket Miniblaster. It is a 3 blade head and I have gotten complete pass thrus on everything so far. I feel more confidant using a 3 blade head over a 2 blade version, with the exception of the Snypers.

This peticular head is basicly a Hammerhead with the pathfinder point to up the wieght to around 120 grns. ( it is listed as 125). I normaly recomed at least 65ft/lbs of KE before for heads this large, at least when dealing with deer size game. For turkey and groundhogs I think they will be fine. If your bow is well tuned and your careful with shot placement you could probably get away with using this large of a head with your setup, but you will have to pass up some shot you may take with a smaller better penetrating head.

For deer I' d recommend a 1.5" cut (such as a sidewinder) or below.
I' m sure you could get a pass through if your shot was perfect double ribs, but throw in a shoulderblade or legbone and I doubt you' d get very far.
