RE: new arrows? need help

yeah im pretty smart guy:D lol
arent blazers supposed to be better at long distance then regular 4 incgers?

Black Stick 11-19-2008 03:25 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

No. At longer distances, or any distance for that matter, longer fletchings provide more stability. You can even get 5" fletchings.

really? then what is the point of blazers?

Less weight.

RE: new arrows? need help

5" feathers weigh less than 1.5" blazers.

oh so they are less accurate then?

RE: new arrows? need help

With a field point you probably wouldn't notice, but when you put a broadhead on and try to put one through a deer at 40, you might have a small problem. I wouldn't worry about it. Blazers are great. Longer fletchings help out the most if you go out west and need to take a super long shot (80+ yards).

well im planning on shooting deer at 40 yards so............?

RE: new arrows? need help

You'll be fine with blazers, assuming you don't have some monster fixed blade. A deer has a 9" vital. After seeing your videos, and I am confident you can hit that. What broadheads are you using?

Black Stick 11-19-2008 04:12 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

Besides, you are probably hunting in a wooded area, so wind won't be as big of a factor.

RE: new arrows? need help

black stick i hunt from fields and woods fields mainly this year and im not doing that next year too hard to hit deer with a bow and judge how far away they are. i also have been hunting with my bow from a blind which is rather difficult. after gun season i will set up a stand in our back 15 and my neighbor is gonna let me hunt his land with bow hopefully. i will hopefully hunt some woods later this season. i will be using all 100g 2 blade magnus stingers, nap thunderheads xp100, or rage 2 blade expandables. will these work?

Black Stick 11-19-2008 07:17 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

I like the stingers. Cool, but I would recommend something smaller like the thunderheads for fixed blades. If you didn't know, Ted Nugent used Stingers. As for the rages, I would rather use Grim Reapers, but any expandable is fine. Something to consider: 3 blades cut more than 2 and 4 blades cut more than three. That is why I use the Wasp four blade for my fixed blades. Even though they are small (1" diameter), they can really tear them up.

so you think all the broadheads i have will be fine what ones would be best that i have? i couldnt really understand what u were syaing in the last thing you wrote..... if you have seen vids of the rage 2 blades they absolutely destroy deer the entry and exit holes are crazy!

Black Stick 11-19-2008 08:22 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

Of the ones you have, I would probably shoot the Naps if I wanted a fixed blade and the Rages are a fine expandable.

I was talking about the number of bladed on broadheads. I use Wasp 4 blades, which have a 1" cutting diameter and I think that they do more damage than the 3 blade Nap that you have, which has 1 1/8" cutting diameter because it has more blades.

mossbergman11/OH 11-20-2008 05:21 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

ok so i will stick with my nap's im not bothering with the rages now. im a pretty good shot and i dont want anything to go wrong with mechanicals at the moment of truth;)

Black Stick 11-20-2008 07:13 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

Sounds good.

RE: new arrows? need help

sorry to reressurect this but BLack Stick would my magnus stingers work ok with my beman ICS hunters with blazer vanes? i donmt want to use my naps becasue i did a test shooting into phonebook and the stingers went all the way through and the naps blades broke off and didnt go far through.
if the magnus stingers wouldnt work well what broadheads would you reccommedn for my setup? i would prefer to stay with magnus becasuse of the warranty, or maybe muzzy

RE: new arrows? need help

I don't think they will work, but I have a cheap fix: Black Friday! The 100 grain strikers are great, but the 100 grain Wasp 4 Blades are better.

Black Stick 11-23-2008 07:38 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

They have 100 grain strikers for $17.50 normally $34.99.

mossbergman11/OH 11-23-2008 08:00 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

what are the strikers? and the wasp 4 blades?

mossbergman11/OH 11-23-2008 08:01 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

what about any other heads?

mossbergman11/OH 11-23-2008 08:03 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

the magnus? any of those?

Black Stick 11-23-2008 08:05 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

The G5 Strikers and Wasp 4 blades are high quality fixed blade broadheads. No, I do not think the Magnus are as good as these for the Beaman ICS.

Black Stick 11-23-2008 08:15 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

If any of the Magnus broadheads will work, it is the 100 grain Stinger Buzcut and the 100 grain stringer, but they will probably not match your field points like the G5 and Wasp will.

dang. i was hoping i could use my same heads
so even though the magnus flew good with my old arrows they wont fly good with my new arrows?
have you used either of the mentioned heads with beman ics hunters with blazer vanes and shot any deer?

Black Stick 11-23-2008 08:40 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

No and you would be hard pressed to find someone who has. I have shot just about every fixed blade broadhead into targets and compared my groups. A smaller light weight head will fly closer to field point groups. Magnus is not that type of head. HOwever, $17.50 for three high quality broadheads is a great deal.

mossbergman11/OH 11-24-2008 04:49 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

so what one better? i like the g5;s more

Black Stick 11-24-2008 04:51 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

The Wasps are better and cheaper IMO, but not by much. Either one would be a good choice.

mossbergman11/OH 11-24-2008 05:11 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

where are the 3 broadheads for 17.50 at?

do they have the G5's at hunters friedn?

mossbergman11/OH 11-24-2008 06:35 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

also sorry but would that nap thunderheads work with my new arrows?

Black Stick 11-24-2008 07:28 PM

RE: new arrows? need help

Yes, the G5 Strikers are the ones that cost $17.50 on hunter's friend. Here is the link to the hunter's friend black Friday Sale. The G5 Strikers are number 28 on the list.

Yes, the thunderheads will work with your Beaman ICS arrows just fine, but not as well as the Wasp 4 blades or G5 Strikers.
