I know this is a difficult question and it might be hard to start comparing, so....
I sold my Tomkat to a buddy of mine and helped him set it up for target shooting.
But everytime he shot it, I found myself hartbroken by the sweet sound that bow makes.
It is dead quiet with the MeanV's stringsuppressor.
Anyway , my friend paid me good money for it and sold is sold.
But when I asked him to shoot my 82nd airborne, I have to say that the airborne is loud compared to the tomkat, both at 55#, both with Meanv's and the airborne with the standard stopper as well.
Anything I could do to make my airborne more quiet ? I ordered the bowjax stoppers, I hope that helps as well.
I am glad the airborne shoots like a mean woman while the tomkat fires more like adiscontent cheerleader an that my be the reason for all the noise

Nice analogy Frank!

The Airborne is generating a lot more energy so you've got more excess energy in the system than the TomKat, that's where your excess noise is coming from. Here's a list of things that can absorb that energy.
#1 Heavier arrow!
- String suppressor
- Heavier arrow!
- Heavier stabilizer
- Heavier arrow!
- LimbSavers
- Heavier arrow!
Get my point?

Frank, It is impossible to compare the Noise the TomKat makes to the noise the Airborne 82nd makes as there is a vast difference in energy generated.
Did you replace the rubber on the Short Stop on the 82nd?
I have a MeanV on my 82nd as well as the rubber rpl. on the Short Stop and it rivals the Quietest bow I've ever shot and is definitely the fastest. Producing over 72#'s of KE at a mere 28" draw and 61#
Are you both shooting the same weight arrow?
Dan

hey guys, long time no see,
thx for the replies on this one,
I'm shooting FMJ's with blazers, wraps and 125gr fieldpoints ( same as BH ) with my arrows weighing a bit more than 420 grains. I think they are heavy enough...
Dan, I forgot to check your website, I'd have ordered the bowjax from you.
I'm going to wait on them and replace the rubber stopper with the bowjax one.
Rob, the main part where the noise is generated is at the standard stringstopper, in my opinion there isn't enough rubber between the metal and the string on contact to absorbe the energy, so it passes onto the bow
At this moment I can make two solid conclusions;
The meanV is one hell of a product
The Tomkat is a good hunting rig for it's price
I'll keep you informed about the bowjax rubbers and the noise my old lady makes...
thx
Frank
