TR drop zone failed me

I have shot my new drop zone rest maybe 200 shots and it was awesome until a few hours ago. I drew back and it dropped. The string pulled out inside the rest where it hooks to the launcher. So now I get to travel to the archery shop to put my bow in a press so I can take the string out of my cable and fix it. A $100 plus dollar rest should not cause trouble after 200 shots. Seems like trophy ridge has some super ideas but forgets about the simple details that make products last.

RE: TR drop zone failed me

I would get straight back to TR about this, I too wouldn' t be very happy with such an expensive rest failing like that so soon after purchase, lets hope its not a design fault.

RE: TR drop zone failed me

After using their sight for one season I know I will never buy another Trophy Ridge product again. I know this is a bit off topic but, I was talking to a guy in the sporting goods store that uses their sights and after breaking pins like I did sent his sight in to get the pins replaced with metal ones and they had the BA!!$ to charge him $35 to do this. $50 if you just buy the metal pins to do it yourself. Seems to me they think they' re quite a bit better than everyone else but aren' t backing it up with quality products. I think I' ll spend my elsewhere.

RE: TR drop zone failed me

I have not used any TR products but based upon many of the opinions on their sights I' ve read and heard, as well as the rest, I think they are a great marketing firm first and a quality archery manufactuer second. Sure they have great full color ads and catching slogans, names, and acronyms(VIPIN, ST(steel tech), DVD Bracket, VDR(vertical drop rest) for everything but does that help you shoot better, I think not. Maybe they need to pull there staff off the marketing side of the company and put some more people on QA and R&D.

RE: TR drop zone failed me

I am curious as to how exactly did the unit fail.
you mean the rest is held together by a string?
I thought the drop zone did not work by strings or cables.

Bigpapascout 03-18-2003 09:35 AM

Crickets chirping

so what went wrong with the rest?

PABowhntr 03-18-2003 11:15 AM

RE: TR drop zone failed me

I think it is the GKF Powerdrop that does not use cables but the Trophy Ridge dropzone uses a cord to connect with the cable. It sounds like the cord that connects from the launcher to the bow' s cable became disconnected at the rest itself.

Bummer, this is one of the rests I wanted to check out this year.

I was just wondering if you' d been able to get sorted, or if not what you' ve been able to get done about this

RE: TR drop zone failed me

Guys I got my new Power drop last thursday I bolted it up got centershot and the arrow squared to string with the actuator button just touching the buss cable and was shooting perfect bullet holes instantly and robinhooded 2 arrows group tuning. this rest Is top notch and built like a tank!

Guys you really need to take a hard long look at this rest because this is the one that will make all others obsolete!!![8D]

RE: TR drop zone failed me

You didn' t happen to have the string too tight did you. Where it wanted to keep pulling the rest up even though it is up? If you have the string to short it could be pulling on the rest harder than what is supposed to and yanked the string out?

I had the opportunity to set one or two of these rests up over the last week and was actually reasonably impressed with the design. It looked rugged and simple enough...yet there was ample adjustment capability as well. Setup was easy provided the instructions were read. Call me crazy but I think this is one cord to cable rest that I would not mind trying.

This one scares me ,
I saw this one in an ad too ,looks like a bulky Fallaway.
This is the same company with the Flatliner sight that moved and moved on me.[:@]
Not on the top of my list.

RE: TR drop zone failed me

I installed a Drop Zone on my bow about 2weeks ago, and love it. Simple to set up and very easy operation.

1. Tie cord on down cable ( the same knot you use to tie a string loop).

2.Draw bow and let knot slide up cable. If rest does no come up compleatly, shorten
cord and re-knot.

3. Draw bow and let knot slide up cable, let down bow and install a brass nock above your knot. Serve about 3/4 of an inch above your nock.

4. Finished. If you leave a little extra cord, about 3/4 of an inch,on your knot you can fine tune if you have to.

5. This is my suggestion only, and you will not need a bow press.

Hope this helps anyone who has one of these rests.

RWard
did you say you needed a BOWPRESS to set it up?
How is yours holding up?
I just went to my dealer to look at the new products and he had a broken matrix
on the counter and he was pissed!
He said the customer said the head just fell off.[:' (]and returned it.
No Drop Zones at this shop.

RE: TR drop zone failed me

Torsohunter, if you follow the Drop Zones instructions you need a bow press. If you follow my instructions you won' t.

I' m not a Trophy Ridge fan, but I do like their Drop Zone rest.

Tosoro Hunter 05-06-2003 08:17 AM

RE: TR drop zone failed me

Why does the Drop Zone rest require a BOWPRESS to put on the rest?
NO other Fallaway does?
This could be a pain.

Handy Andy 05-09-2003 05:19 PM

RE: TR drop zone failed me

I recently switched from the GKF Mirage to the Trophy Ridge DROP ZONE and couldn' t be more impressed with this product. This is my new favorite rest and it is the one I' ll be haulin' into my treestand this fall.

Tosore Hunter,
A bowpress is needed to relax the harness so that the cord an be fitted thru its center. This is the most common way I know of for the majority of fallaways.

Orions_Bow 05-10-2003 10:47 AM

RE: TR drop zone failed me

I have never shot one so I can not honestly say. I have used the Mirage, Power Drop & Hunter Elite and none of them have failed me. The only thing that worries me about this rest is where the string loops over that roller, just seems like it could slip off & get stuck.

Like I said I have no idea since I have not shot it. It' s great to see these forums provide help to so many people. I hope you get your issues worked out with your rest! Good Luck!

Tosoro Hunter 05-11-2003 09:57 AM

RE: TR drop zone failed me

Folks still looking at fallaways ,got the new Cabalas catalog!

Leaning toward Power Drop or Mirage now.
Hey that TKO looks super too.

Orion ,so true I cannot afford a cord to pull out or a rest to loosen up like a sight.
Which one do you think,I am ready to order for my SQ2.

Orions_Bow 05-11-2003 02:02 PM

RE: TR drop zone failed me

Tosoro Hunter - I would look at the Hunter Elite or the Mirage. The Hunter Elite works great on the Q series bows by Mathews & that would be my choice on the SQ2.

RE: TR drop zone failed me

I have been using the new Drop Zone for awhile now and I have been very impressed with its performance. I do know that on the very first production run of the DZ they originally just melted the end of the cord, BUT now they are knotting, then melting this end. The rest features a wide range of adjustment and and only 2 screws which keeps it nice and simple. It locks down solid and its durable MatchTech anodized camo just looks cool. All these features combined with how nice the arm ,not only lifts, but holds the arrow securely has truly made this rest a favorite of mine. I would strongly encourage everyone to ignore rumors or a couple of very early experiences and check this one out. A quality design backed by the best CS in the industry makes this rest a serious contender for top fallaway. Good luck and good shootin' [8D]

BP,thanks for the info. That Hunter Elite looks like quality.

Bullsi, I heard that this Trapdoor has failed a few people and one Dealer in my area stopped carring them ,he told me to try the Power Drop if you want
no attachments.

Thanks for the info. I may need to buy two GK rests.

RE: TR drop zone failed me

Now I' m not looking to start probs, but at the weekend I was visiting my brother in AZ, we went to the local pro store and did the usual...chewed fat and checked out all the gear :). While chatting with the owner he mentioned that he' d had several Drop Zone' s come back with failures, to the point he was thinking about dropping them totally. I was more than a little surprised to hear this, but maybe its not been tested fully, or a bad batch...but whatever is the cause its not good :(.

I' m now using the Power drop and love it, though saying that I have the new TKO rest on order, that looks such a sweet rest I just had to get it...and what a drop in price to the rest of the pack [8D] I can almost afford 2 beers this week now :D:D:D

Now with all this beer money you lot have to mention the Hunter Elite :(:(, whats up...you don' t want me to drink ??

Tosoro Hunter 06-04-2003 08:28 PM

I picked up the Hunter Elite and luv it .
Quality like no other rest .

Now I hear GKF has another fallaway coming out called the TKO.

I may have to buy that one too.

Must have fallen out.
Where can he get them?

Thanks

There' s nothing wrong with the rest bro...Sounds like to me you did the same exact thing I did with my NAP 2000...I had the cable too short and it pulled on the rest too tight and it snapped my stop pin. I didn' t read the directions[&:]duh.

R.WARD 08-20-2003 07:06 PM

GVDocHoliday, I' ll second that!

RE: TR drop zone failed me

Some guys like Chevys, some like Fords, but I' ve tried TT' s,NAP' s,TR DZ.The TR DZ to me was noisey, the set allen screw chewed up the riser, the adjustment screws in the rest work loose. Then there is the question of string failure, which happen to my buddy and myself.I can' t stand the fact that you can' t see where the string attaches inside the rest,it' s sort of blind faith it' s going to be ok.Stay with the MZE,thats what I did.It' s not like I did' nt give the other rests a shot, because I did,but the MZE is far and away the fall-away rest. That' s my story and I' m sticking to it!....Bob

RE: TR drop zone failed me

I had the drop zone and after probably close to 200 shots the spring wore out and the launcher arm would not drop out of the way. Played with it a little more to see what might be wrong and the launcher arm broke off.

RE: TR drop zone failed me

I emailed TrophyR about the brass vibration reduces and am still waiting for a replay ,should he call them?

Anyone?[:' (]
