Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??

I am planning on purchasing a new Hoyt Razortec. I was wonding if someone could help me calculate what kind of speed I can get with my setup.

28" draw length
68 pounds
440 grain 28" arrow (100 grain tip, 3- 4" vanes with cresting)
75% let off (not sure but this is what I leaning towards)

I shoot a release with 2 nocks above the arrow with a rubbber cusion under the arrow and shoot a release off the string.

Thanks for the help.

Starting with the 310 fps IBO speed...

- Nock 20 fps off for the 2 inch shorter draw length
- Nock roughly 4 fps off for the slightly lighter draw weight
- Nock roughly 18 fps for the heavier arrow weight
- Nock about 10 fps off for the string accessories and their location

That would bring a speed estimate of approximately 258 fps.

I just bought a Razortec on Thursday. My draw length is 27" , the weight is about 67lbs and I' m using a string loop. But my arrows are somewhat lighter--402 grains. I was a little disappointed with my arrow speed--238 fps. I' m not a speed freak, but I was expecting a significantly higher reading.

DaveH, what do you have on your string?

Your RazorTec, if properly setup, should perform better than that.

My razortec is set at 58# 27.5 in . has a winnerschoice string with trupeep, 1 nokset,1 eliminator button, 2 tru speedballs, shooting a 320 grn. goldtip at 283 fps.
this bow really surprised me, no recoil, no excessive noise, a real nice bow to shoot!

Thanks for the input, I greatly appreciate it. I guess I was hoping for a little more speed, I will have to think about it. My current hunting bow (2000 High Country 4 Runner) is shooting the same set up at about 265-267fps. Although the 4-runner only has about a 6-1/2" brace height and 2" longer ATA. I will have to have my local shop set one up as I would need and see what I get for speed.

I would asume their is a minimal gain for 1/2" in draw length, correct?

Thank You

UpNorth, for an extra 1/2" of draw length you can expect a speed gain of 4-5fps.

I am not trying to talk you into or out of any decision, but I own a 4runner, and a RazorTec, and for the few fps you will give up with the razortec you will gain back a smoother, more quiet rig.

My two bows setup at the indentical draw length and draw weight, shooting the same arrow are 9fps apart in speed.

4runner @ 69# and 29" draw shoots 302fps with a 372gr. arrow
RazorTec @ 69# and 29" draw shoots 293fps with same arrow.

To me, the RazorTec is much smoother, and treestand friendly. I would not say it is more accurate, mainly due to the axle to axle length, but it does shoot excellent groups.

Let us know what you decide!:D

Big Country

Thanks for the advice. What are you shooting for let-off? I am assuming I would only pick up another 2-3fps by going with a %65. But this is going to be my hunting bow so I think I am leaning toward the %75 let off.

I shoot a 2000 UltraTec for 3-D and love this bow. Who knows the RazorTec may even get around or two in.

Thank You

RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??

UpNorth, I am shooting 75% letoff on my 2003 bows. I have 65% modules ordered, just to check them out. I shoot with 3 of the Hoyt poster boys fairly often, I`ll ask them if the 65% are any faster.

I know my 2002 ultratec did not pick up anything by going down to 65% letoff, but that was a totally different cam.(excel cam)
