Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
I am planning on purchasing a new Hoyt Razortec. I was wonding if someone could help me calculate what kind of speed I can get with my setup.
28" draw length 68 pounds 440 grain 28" arrow (100 grain tip, 3- 4" vanes with cresting) 75% let off (not sure but this is what I leaning towards) I shoot a release with 2 nocks above the arrow with a rubbber cusion under the arrow and shoot a release off the string. Thanks for the help. |
RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
Starting with the 310 fps IBO speed...
- Nock 20 fps off for the 2 inch shorter draw length - Nock roughly 4 fps off for the slightly lighter draw weight - Nock roughly 18 fps for the heavier arrow weight - Nock about 10 fps off for the string accessories and their location That would bring a speed estimate of approximately 258 fps. |
RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
I just bought a Razortec on Thursday. My draw length is 27" , the weight is about 67lbs and I' m using a string loop. But my arrows are somewhat lighter--402 grains. I was a little disappointed with my arrow speed--238 fps. I' m not a speed freak, but I was expecting a significantly higher reading.

RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
DaveH, what do you have on your string?
Your RazorTec, if properly setup, should perform better than that. |
RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
My Razortec at 28" (true 28" AMO), 68#, 432 grain arrow is 254 fps with loop, nock, leeches and peep

RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
My razortec is set at 58# 27.5 in . has a winnerschoice string with trupeep, 1 nokset,1 eliminator button, 2 tru speedballs, shooting a 320 grn. goldtip at 283 fps.
this bow really surprised me, no recoil, no excessive noise, a real nice bow to shoot! |
RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
Thanks for the input, I greatly appreciate it. I guess I was hoping for a little more speed, I will have to think about it. My current hunting bow (2000 High Country 4 Runner) is shooting the same set up at about 265-267fps. Although the 4-runner only has about a 6-1/2" brace height and 2" longer ATA. I will have to have my local shop set one up as I would need and see what I get for speed.
I would asume their is a minimal gain for 1/2" in draw length, correct? Thank You Domonic |
RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
UpNorth, for an extra 1/2" of draw length you can expect a speed gain of 4-5fps.
I am not trying to talk you into or out of any decision, but I own a 4runner, and a RazorTec, and for the few fps you will give up with the razortec you will gain back a smoother, more quiet rig. My two bows setup at the indentical draw length and draw weight, shooting the same arrow are 9fps apart in speed. 4runner @ 69# and 29" draw shoots 302fps with a 372gr. arrow RazorTec @ 69# and 29" draw shoots 293fps with same arrow. To me, the RazorTec is much smoother, and treestand friendly. I would not say it is more accurate, mainly due to the axle to axle length, but it does shoot excellent groups. Let us know what you decide!:D |

Big Country
Thanks for the advice. What are you shooting for let-off? I am assuming I would only pick up another 2-3fps by going with a %65. But this is going to be my hunting bow so I think I am leaning toward the %75 let off. I shoot a 2000 UltraTec for 3-D and love this bow. Who knows the RazorTec may even get around or two in. Thank You |
RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
UpNorth, I am shooting 75% letoff on my 2003 bows. I have 65% modules ordered, just to check them out. I shoot with 3 of the Hoyt poster boys fairly often, I`ll ask them if the 65% are any faster.
I know my 2002 ultratec did not pick up anything by going down to 65% letoff, but that was a totally different cam.(excel cam) |
RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
You will pick up 1-3 fps with 65% modules.

RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
I went down to the local shop and shot the RazorTec. 28-1/2" 440 grain arrow, loop and leaches at 68 pounds shot 265fps. I shoot with 2 nocks and a peep so this would probably bump it down to about 260fps.
The one I shot had the high let off cams. It shot very nice, with no jump or hand shock. But I have a couple of questions before I order one. At full draw if you creep at all it jumps forward, Is this something you get used to with time?? (really started to tear on the shoulder) When I order one should I take one from theshelf that accomidates my draw lenght, or special order one at 28-1/2" draw length?? I thought someone told me that it would be more efficient if I ordered it to my draw length. Can someone explain how many different modules there are and what works best?? Thanks All Domonic |
RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
The cams come in 2.5 inch draw length increments. I have heard, but have not personally tested the theory) that if you get a module that is at the max for your drawlength (26 - 28.5 in your case) it will be the most efficient and the fastest.
I shoot a Razortec at 28.5, 72#s, 65% mods, 360 grain arrow (3D arrows) and get 284 fps. I was getting 281 fps with the 75% mods. |
RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
BTW, I have not noticed the small valley that you are describing, so I would say that yes, it is something you get used to . Compared to some of the Bowtecs and the Legacy I tested the valley is very long, but very short compared to some of the other bows out there.

Relamb
Thanks for the feed back. I am not sure, but I call it the valley. When at full draw on the wall if you start to creep forward the string wants to take off forward. The RazorTec I shot, I was shooting my hunting arrows through it, I did shood one of my 3-D arrows that weigh 336 grains and it registered 301fps, I beleive that is what it said. I only shot this arrow once. I would probably have to take off 6fps for the peep and another 10 for the two knocks on the string. That would put it at about 285fps, pretty close to what you are getting. Thanks again |
RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
I have some reasons I was getting lower readings. My draw length is even shorter than I thought--I' m at 26 1/2" --the bottom of the range--but it WAS in stock!! On the string, there' s a string loop with a nock above it, a kisser button with a nock on either side, a peep site and the two included string leeches. If I removed some of these " additions" , shot lighter arrows and increased my weight (the weight is increased now), I figure I would be in the 260 range.

RE: Hoyt RazorTec Speeds ??
I just bought a 50-60lb RazorTec. added a peep, nock and string loop. It is set on 63# and my draw length is set at 28. I am shooting a 26 1/2" carbon arrow that weighs just under 400 grains including the field point. My bow is graphing at about 243fps. It has the 75% let off modules.
I am just have a feeling that something is not right. I really like the bow, but I am disappointed with the speed. |
