bow noise while drawing..
#1
the last post about bow noise reminded me of a question ive always meant to ask...
ive noticed that if i dont shoot my bow for a while, that it will make a noise when i draw it...usually only the first draw or maybe first couple tops...its not real loud but i can hear it...almost sounds like the limbs creaking? hard to explain...
is that just from it sitting for a while?? usually sits in the case in my room which is normal house temps...doesnt seem to do it if i shoot every day...and only does it the first draw or maybe first couple and only after it sat a while...
bow is a 06 reflex highlander...
any ideas? reasons? causes for concern? ive checked 100 times and cant find cracks or anything...think it is the limbs not the cams...but could be wrong

uhhh 2006 when it was manufacured!
never knew about doing that...or..having it done. i posted about bow maintnence when i was getting into it and all i got for feedback was wax the string...
suppose i can have that done sometime...i thought i read my bearings or whatever were sealed and didnt require anything though? or is there still something that can be done??
i'll hafta listen close next time i draw to see...i always thought it sounded like the limbs..mainly the top limb...but could be wrong...

I would bet that it is coming from where the limb goes into the pocket. The tolerances are so close that there can be some creeking coming from this area.
I usually remove my limbs and add a touch of grease in the pocket and it usually cures the problem.

BC, hunt in the rain?? of course! cant kill em from the couch!!! heck, ive shot in the rain on more than one occassion...got stormed on at a 3d shoot and was a good mile from the truck...figured we were gettin soaked regaurdless...might as well shoot the last half on the way out...i'll have to have them oiled...if it dont help, no biggie...i want the bow to last a couple more years and even then keep it as a backup...i just never knew it needed done...
tfox...sounds like it could be it...
man i wish i had a press...i'll have to take it to the basement shop i know of...hes an awesome guy and real friendly and is the only shop i know of that wouldnt look at me like im retarded to ask for somethin like this to be done lol..."ahh gimme a lube job please!"
i'll also try to pinpoint the noise...bow is at home...try to remember to draw it friday and see if i cant narrow things down...just remembered i been wanting to ask about it...been doing it as long as i can remember when it sits for a while...

I have done it a few times to Hoyts and CURED the problem. The newer Hoyts don't seem to have this problem.Your limb pockets I BELIEVE are actually older Hoyt limb pockets.
I also took a little 400 grit paper to the area that fit inside the pocket(just to slick it up)as well just for added insurance that I wasn't going to need to break the bow down again.

You can lube the axles with a drop of TriFlow but I'm with TFOX on the limb pocket/joint needing grease. I've had the same problem on some older Hoyts and a little RIG grease solved it. Another solution I found is that when we were doing Teflon coatings in the gunshop I stripped and coated all the steel parts on the bow with Teflon; no rust and slick as a whistle!
