Hey all, I am new to the forum but have been hunting since I was 8 years old. I recently purchased a new Hoyt Vulcan with a 26" draw length Vector cam 1/2 system and 70-80# limbs. I have been shooting the bow fairly well. The brace height doesn't bother me because I am so short (5'3" male). However the bow shop where I bought my bow sold me Vapor Whitetails 5000 arrows. My question is does this arrow sound right (as far as spine)for my new bow. My arrow length is 26" from the bottom of the nock to the insert and I am shooting a wisker biscuit. I like the bow OK but I can't find a arrow chart for Vapors the one on their sight is for gold tips. Thanks in advance for the help.

According to OT2 the whitetail 5000 has a static spine of 0.300. The programs suggests that with your bow set at 80#'s 26" draw and arrow with 100 grain heads should be around 0.4113 static spine. Your arrowsare pretty stiff (considering i'm not completely sure what your bow is set at and other variables like fletching ,and nocks, point weight) Hope this helps. I would recomend downloading the trial version of OnTarget2. It is a pretty neat program from what I have used of it. For $25 it is a real steal in my opinion. I think the 3000 model is better suited for your arrow length.

Interesting. I have a quantity of Vapor 4000 arrows that I got from the local archery shop. They were represented to me as having a spine equivalent to the 400 series Easton arrows. The shoot pretty well with field points, but bare shaft tuning has always shown a stiff spine (angle left) arrow entry into a 20 yard target. I'm kinda gathering from your post that they may, indeed, be a stiffer arrow shaft than the Easton 400's.

I just found Blackhawk's website and spine chart. They are indeed recommending an 80# bow at 26" needs their 5000 series arrow. If the draw weight went to below 76 lbs, then the 4000 series.

I just checked my bow and am pulling 72lbs right now so I guess my 5000's are a little light... I guess I am a little stiff unless I want to up my poundage. I have 2 dozen arrows hopefully when I can afford the 4000's I will by those.
Roskoe, Where did you find the chart when I pulled up their chart it came up as gold tips which I must be reading wrong because I think I saw 400 not 4000. Could you post a link please.
As far as OT2 where do I get this?
You all have been truly helpful and this is only my first day.

My point weight is 100 grains, 2" blazers, and the standard nock that comes with the Vapors. I am thinking the bow shop sized me to use the full 80# of this bow where I am only at 72# right now. I hunt elk and want to hunt moose thus I went with the heavier limbs but for now 72# is good.

There must be a flaw in the program. I thought it was kind of funny that a 5000 series had a spine of 0.300. Usually the higher to number the weaker the spine. Atleast this is true for easton arrows. A 500 series has a spine of 0.500 and a 340 has a spine of 0.340. Any way according to OT2 with 72# draw weight your optimum arrow spine should be around0.4525 if the prgram is correct which i believe it probably is. If the arrow you are using is close to that spine you should be ok but even when i enter the 3000 (0.400 spine) series arrow it still showed your spine pretty stiff for the length of arrow. I would probably trust the blackhawk website spine rating and as long as they say it is right then you should be ok. Sorry for any misinformation i am not familiar with this prticular arrow and just trusting the program to have the right numbers.

Just checked the website and if you are using the pro series whitetail arrows the spine ratings are correct in the OT2 program.
5000 series = 0.300 spine
4000 series = 0.350 spine
3000 series = 0.400 spine
5000 series = 0.300 spine
4000 series = 0.350 spine
3000 series = 0.400 spine

Cool that makes sense. I think I might buy a half dozen of the 4000's and see if I get better arrow flight because it seems like my weight is right in between the 4000 and 5000.
Could anyone recommend some other arrows for me that they have had good luck with? I buy these merely because they are affordable at $65 a dozen.
