Default Black Ice

I was wondering what arrow and broadhead size you guys would recommend for my new Diamond Black Ice. I got it tuned with my old arrows and seems to shoot o.k. but wouldn't mind trying something different. It's set on 30" draw and just under 60#. My old arrows are Carbon Express 6075.

I shot PSE Radial Weave 300s with 100 grMagnus Stingers. These flew great, and are very consistent arrows in all respects. Weight is 395 gr.

I shoot a Black Ice at 65 lbs at 28 inch draw with a 400 axes at 28 1/2 inches with a 85 grain thunderhead at about 280 fps and they shoot like bullets and blowed through two deer this year. I was shooting two inch group at 30 yards with them and only could shoot no more than two arrow at a time to keep from destroying them.

I shoot ACC 3-60s with Slick Trick 100 grain magnums, the arrow is 403 grains total with head. I shoot 30" draw at 69 pounds and the arrow speed is 280 fps.

Thanks guys!! I don't know what Ill get but I appreciate the good advice. We do't have a bow shop anywhere around here so I'm going to have to order whatever I get. I was planning on some slick tricks but didn't know for sure what gr. to get and what arrow. I've heard a lot of good things about them. I lost two nice bucks this year, I don't know if it was the broadheads fault but there wasn't much of a blood trail. I didn't get pass threw on either deer and I always have. I wasn't shooting this Diamond at the time but never had any problem with my old bow before. Thanks again!!

Rod,
The arrow and BH are a matter of personal preference for the most part, however, if you are worried about penetration, other than optimal shot placement, a Cut-on-Contact, like the Magnus is probably the way to go. Make sure the bow is tuned to perfection, and remember to hold low in the vitals, esp. if either of the ones you lost jumped (really ducked, not sure why we called it "jumped") string. I try to always remind myself to aim for the heart, sometimes esp. if I'm not perfectly sure of the distance, if I don't get a chance to use my Rangefinder, I estimate the distance, plus a little and aim for the heart. I personally like a mixed batch of mechanicals and fixed blade heads, but if you've had penetration issues (especially on well placed shots), I think the last thing you want to be shooting is a mechanical BH. Also you want to make sure you have a fair amount of weight to that arrow, make sure you're shooting something around the 400 grain, or heavier, for a little better penetration. Hope some of that helps a little. Better luck next time. I hate that sickening feeling of losing one.

Thanks Doug! I was using a mechanical broadhead at the time but am switching back to fixed. I thought I would try them so I bought some cheaper ones at Wally World, boy was that a mistake. My girlfriend doesn't even bowhunt and she told me to throw those things away and go back to my old ones. I've heard about good blood trails with slick tricks so I thought I might try them. I've been bowhunting for a long time but never really knew much about it. I borrowed my uncles bow and arrows so it was already rigged up and ready to go. Now I've got my own and need to figure out what works best. We use to have a bow shop here in town but haven't had one in a long time so all I can go by is what I hear on the internet and what they have at Wal-Mart. I need to go to the city so I don't have to order online. I will probably have to have the arrows cut. What do you think of the Carbon Express arrows. I figured they were cheaper but didn't really have a choice at the time. Thanks again for all the info. I've also learned a lot about tuning. I got it tuned pretty close but never knew about tiller. That might help even more. The bow shoots really good but every little bit will help.

At your length probably Maxima 350's with Razr feathers to keep your FOC up. Also the Maxima Hunters would be a good choice. Try to keep your FOC at a minimum of 12% for broaheads and preferably 15%
