I've been a long time lurker here on the archery forums, and now would like to tap into the great wealth of knowlegde and experience that yall have.

I find myself in the market for a new set of arrows this year, and am seriously considering giving the Carbon Express Maxima Hunters a try. My question is this; on a Maxima Hunter 350 @ 29"(ish) arrow length, what are you guys getting for your FOC with 100g and/or 125g tips (field tip or otherwise) and using Blazer vanes?

I ask because I would like to get into the 14-16% FOC range with these arrows without having to add too much additional forward weight (if any), which I have had to do in the past with my previous arrows (GT XT Hunters). The real question being, is the addtional FOC build into the Maxima Hunters significant, or not?

I have a 27" CX Maxima Hunter 250 with a 5" wrap and 3-Blazer vanes. With a 100 grain tip on it the FOC is only 10% That's one reason I use 125 grain broadheads and feather fletch, greatly improves my FOC. Most people do not shoot enough FOC for the best broadhead flight possible

I fletched and built some FMJ's before I hunted NE in Dec with a FOC of over 20%. Results were pretty awesomeI like to keep a minimum of 12% but prefer 15% or better although it's not always feasible.

It's the percentage of your arrow length in which the arrow will balance in front of the center markon a narrow edge. I'm sure if you search FOC you should come up with a bunch of reading

Thanks for your input Dan. One question on the FMJ's, did you use heavy-wieght HIT inserts in addition to fletching with feathers, or did you just use a heavier BH?

I've been playing with Archers Advantage to set up different arrow builds, different feathers and such. My concern is whether or not AA models the build int FOC on the Maxima hunters correctly, or if the FOC increase is fairly insignificant to begin with.

In the past I have steered clear of feathers since I spend a fair amount of time wandering the elk woods when it is raining out. To me, not matter what I did to prep the fletching, with two days of solid drizzle, they always seemed eventually get soaked down. Maybe I didn't do my homework well enough and pick the right waterproofing agent (cant remember off the top of my head what I used, it has been years).

Now, thats not to say that I'm completely opposed to using feathers. Playing with AA, it seems like using feathers with a 125g BH will be about the only way to achieve > 14% FOC on my hunting arrows (without going to weighted inserts, etc), no matter WHAT brand I choose. So, looks like I'll have to look into the waterproofing agents a bit more that I have in the past.

On the FMJ's I used the Brass HIT inserts and 125 grain Slick Tricks. I use a spray silicone spray on my feathers but your experience could differGood Luck!!

From what I've seen, the Maxima Hunter's don't seem to produce any extra FOC, just more of a marketing ploy. Call me crazy, but I think the "Bulldog" collar cancels out any extra advantage it has.

I shoot a 28" maxima hunter w/ 100 grain tips....my FOC is just a tick over 11%.

Totally wrong!They give you a head start but that doesn't mean you can build an arrow blind. CX makes the best all carbon arrows I have shot

Uhhh, no. Not a marketing ploy in this case. It stands to reason, just think about it a little. Camo arrows weigh, on average...1 to 1.5 grains per inch more than non camo, right? So a 28 inch arrow will weigh at least 28 grains more. So it only stands to reason that if the front 2/3 of the arrow are camo finish......The front is going to be heavier. If you're so worried about the bulldog collar adding extra weight, take the blasted thing off. It slips right off. BUT, be prepared to ruin some arrows, those collars seriously protect the tail of the shaft. You've not shot these arrows much, huh?
