Fiber Optic Colors
What are the best colors to have. On most of the better sights you can choose what colors you want so my question is. What colors do you want and do not want?

anybody?

RE: Fiber Optic Colors
I want green and yellow. Simply because they stay brighter longer. The red one will die quickly.

RE: Fiber Optic Colors
It's intriguing the responses on this thread. I had a "discussion" with my son concerning this very topic when he set my Hoyt Vectrix XL for me the Friday of Thanksgiving week.
I told him I wish I could get rid of the yellow pins and go to green and red, or green and blue. He told me I needed to get rid of the green and blue and keep red and yellow. I recanted for him what I saw in the woods when he was a youngster. We got into the woods about an hour before the sun came up. As the woods started changing from dark to light I noticed that the first pin I saw was the green pin. Then about 15 minutes later I saw the red pin and another 10 minutes or so later I saw the yellow pin. We stayed in the woods all day. As the sun was going down that evening I observed just the opposite occuring. The first pin I lost was the yellow pin, then 10 minutes or so later the red pin and about 15 minutes later the green pin was no longer visible. I have some new fibers on order and will be switching my sight to green, blue, green, blue, green. Actually, for hunting purposes, the only pin I think I will ever use is the top green pin. Bill |
RE: Fiber Optic Colors
With the Fitz Fibers I've noticed them to be (brightest to dimmest) yellow, green, orange, red. I haven't tried the blue since I read that it was made to be used with a lighted sight and we can't legally light our sights in AK.

RE: Fiber Optic Colors
I prefer all green.

RE: Fiber Optic Colors
I've yet to see a blue pin, or orange. I like the idea of a blue one however,
Between Green, Yellow and Red I've noticed this, Green shows up first and leaves last. Yellow is next, Red is the worst. |
RE: Fiber Optic Colors
I have only green and yellow pins on my hunting bow.
My target bow has a blue down pin in the scope and I have a LP Archery sight light for it. |
RE: Fiber Optic Colors
I have a 4 pin sight that goes:
green-20 red-30 green-40 red-50 The red pins are noticably darker. I think that blue pins would be very nice and bright....but i've never seen or heard of them. For now my greens and reds are working out just fine. |
RE: Fiber Optic Colors
i had all green on my sight and it was fine.....but i just switched to a wrapped "lighted" sight i could see all pins even better then the original sight with all green....so i think it really is personal opinion.....
how far do you shoot? what are your typical conditions? early morning / late night? cloudy with little light? consider the factors then choose accordingly. |
RE: Fiber Optic Colors
The reason I use green at 20 is that most of my shots are at or around 20yrds,my farthest shooting lane is 32yrds but the deer have to be off the path alot,in 24 yrs I cant really think of a time I shot over 26,well except for the one I thought was around 25 and was about 35 when I walked it offthat was before the range finder thingamajig wasaffordable....

RE: Fiber Optic Colors
Most people will see green and yellow better in low light and red will be the first to go. But there are some people who aremore sensitive than usual to some colors than others. So what ismost visible to me might not be best for you.
My eyes pick up green best. But I don't just use green becausea little color coding to help keep me from using the wrong pin. So, I've gotgreen for 20.Yellow for 30.Green again for 40. 50 and 60 are both red, because I lose red first in low light... and because I'm not going to use them for huntinganyway. |
RE: Fiber Optic Colors
Red is the most difficult for me to use. Of course I'm an old codger and my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. Green and yellow are definetly the brightest. Haven't tried blue.

RE: Fiber Optic Colors
I use a single pin green for hunting...shows very well in dim light and on cloudy days, but can cause a hallo effect in bright sun light.
