RE: bowtech hostage?

The frame is plastic but it doesn't seem to really matter.........I have 2 Trophy Takers, Muzzy Zero effect, Trophy Ridge Drop Zone, GKF Infiniti and Infiniti Drop aways, APA Twister Safari, Bodoodles, among others, LOL.......and I have a Hostage on my Guardian hunting bow. (Almost embarassed to say [:-]:D)
It's so stupidly simple, full containment and your not slamming your fletching through bristles. Yes I have about $1000 worth of rests and I'm using the cheapest simplest of them all. LOL I think I've come full circle.

I put it on eyeballed everything, arrow flight looked great so I paper tuned and the paper tears look like they were shot with a gun.
So I stood there thinking........"Hmmmmm, no cords, no tying in, no timing, full containment. Hostage it is.":)

One thing I did just because I'm paranoid is refletch with 3" feathers just in case I index a nock wrong or get one truned slightly. The thought of slamming a rigid vane like a Blazer or Predator into a bristle set gave me shivers.

Oh it's REALLY quiet too.

How do those brushes attach to the frame? Is there any concern that they could fall off at the wrong time?

Looks awefully similar to the NAP 360 Capture.....

Almost, but the Nap 360 has a plastic arrow holder that makes noise.. The hostage is a lot better in my opinion... I don't shoot any of those, but I have check them out. They are both better imho than the WB.

Found some good information over at HuntersFriend for anyone that is interested. I wasn't aware that Bowtech/Diamond had bought out the manufacturing and licensing rights for this rest. They must have sawthe potential.

Good point, and yes, that plastic is a bit loud......I do like the concept much better than the WB though.....

I actually tried one out and I ended up giving it away. Here is what I wrote about it........

I actually bought one of these rests to compare with my Whisker Biscuit. At first glance it looks cheaper being made of polymerand all but it seemed to be sturdy.

It's smaller than the Whisker Biscuit which I thought might give those who shoot larger vanes/feathers clearance problems but I had none with my standard height 4in vanes.

It does not hold the arrow in place like the W/B does, if bumped it will fall through the bristles and clank against the frame. Mole skin (provided) is a must if you use this rest. The W/B is a mole skin free rest and the arrow even if bumped will (as mentioned) reset itself back into position.

Shooting anything with more than a slight offset will cause the vanes to run into the bristles. You can rotate the arrow so that the leading edge of the vanes don't hit but then the trailing edge will. I shot both my standard 4deg offset with no problems but when I shot helical vanes they hit the bristles.

All and all depending on what arrows you use it seemed to be a decent rest but I will not be using it. It's no way near the rest a Whisker Biscuit is and I will probably end up giving it away on one of "BigJ's Late Night Giveaways" soon.

Stick with the Whisker Biscuit IMHO it's a better rest for what you will be doing.

RE: bowtech hostage?

I have tried the Hostage as well. My experience with it seems to be somewhere in between BigJ's comments and some of the more positive ones here on the thread. It does take away from the one big complaint about the whisker biscuit, namely initial fletching wear. Just as with the typical prong style arrow rest, fletching alignment is critical in getting the least amount of contact and the best arrow flight. The bristles are easily replaceable via a small set screw behind each "launcher". The arrow can fall through the bristles if bumped accidentally but can be reset fairly easily.

The rest is predominantly a "plastic/poly" blend. As many folks are aware there are a variety of high performance/high stressaccessories made of this type of material and they withstand the rigors of day to day use. Having said that I would prefer for the rest to be of a machined aluminum design. I have compared it to the NAP Quicktune 360 and must admit I prefer the all metal construction of the 360 design. However, I have found no fault with using bristles as the bottom support launcher as opposed to the plastic "groove" found on the 360. Each seems equally capable of supporting and delivering the arrow during the shot sequence.

As with many of the new designs on the market I think this rest will find a very nice place out in the deer woods this fall.
