Default Bowtech extreme vft or Mathews Legacy?

Hi - my first post to this group! I was in the shop with $ in hand for a Legacy when the dealer showed me a new extreme vft. wow! bit shorter, lighter, dealer said it would smoke a legacy. I shoot lefty, so i couldnt test drive it. Now im undecided. Any experiences with either of these? It'll be used for mostly treestand hunting in the NY adirondacks

btw, the "old hoss" retiring is a hoyt tenacity II 80#
thanks!

I would recommend the legacy, simply due to the fact that it has a greater brace height and may be a little more hunter friendly on those cold bundled up adirondacks mournings.

I personaly would stay away from sub 7 inch brace heights.

Twaang, you can get the XVFT in a Samson with 80, 90 or 100 pounds draw weight for the same price. I shot my Darton Maverick as well as anything I've owned and it had a 6 1/4 inch brace height.

Get the bowtech .I think mathews took a huge step backwards with the roller gaurd setup , had a legacy for about 2 weeks and sold it hated the bow .You get winner choice strings (I believe) with the bowtech and I think a muzzy zerro effect will work on that model .

We all have different oppinions , if we did'nt the world would be a BORING place

Well I’m certainly biased towards Bowtech. However I believe you are comparing a bit of apples and oranges. I have not shot the EXVFT, but would be reluctant personally to buy a bow strictly for hunting with a brace height under 7”. I’ve heard good things about the EXVFT, and some low brace bows shoot much better than others, but as my “main squeeze” for hunting I’d still be a little leery.

I think you would be much better off ordering either a Bowtech Patriot in either the dual or single cam configuration. Both are still faster than the Legacy (if that is a concern) with comparable brace heights (7 5/8 & 7 3/8” respectively), and the DC PAT’s speed will be comparable to the EXVFT if not better, and the Patriot SC is not that far behind either.

That being said I like the Legacy. I think its Mathews’ best bow in several years, and I’d buy another if I had the money laying around. But in my hands the Bowtechs shoot more consistently, so I’d be inclined to pick one of those if given the choice.

Thanks all - i hear the brace ht comments for sure, but if the xvft shoots anything like my old tenacity (which has a 6.25" b.h), which is wonderfully, then i think i can live with it. Years back i had an old pse and a martin, both with about 8" BH and i didnt think they shot as well as the hoyt, as least in my hands. well - ill be checking this forum for posts on the new xvft or better yet a sampson xvft, maybe give it a month or so...
but i think im leaning in the bow tech direction. Heck, the tenacity "just works" (with the emphasis on works) but its entering its 6th year and many a shots the ole hoss gave me

I like the Legacy but the bowtech is a great bow too. If at all try both you really need too!

Jeff brought up a great point, that being the brace height of the Extreme VFT. While the bow shoots well and has little recoil and shock, it just isn't something I would bring with me to a stand, especially with heavy clothing in cold weather. I always recommend a bow with over 7" brace, and over 7.25-7.5" is even better. I would much rather be toting the Patriot DC with over an inch extra brace,(7.6" vs 6.5ish&quot and with an extra 10 fps and twin cam tunability to boot! JMHO.

The Legacy also has some of Mathews' inherent good features, but IMO needs to get away from that stationary roller guide (sorry, pet peeve) unless they make it able to move freely back and forth, eliminating the added prestress on limbs it creates by being stationary.

Of the two above mentioned bows, I would personally pick neither, and opt for either the Patriot DC or the Q2, preferrably the Patriot DC. Just my own thoughts, Pinwheel 12

OK, I'll throw in my .02 for the Patriot DC (I hope mine gets here this week <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>). Having not shot either (I did have a 2002 Pat), I'd shoot both. Then decide. Personally, I'm on the dual cam bandwagon now. As Pinwheel pointed out, I also like the tuning options.

I shot the Bowtech Patriot right beside the Legacy. I personally bought the Legacy because of its smoothness and ease of shooting. I haven't shot the XVT so I can't comment. However, I can say I really like my Mathews and am looking for a new 3-D bow. It will probably be a Mathews also. Good luck on your search.
