G5 meta peep
Ok, so today I'm taking all my accessories off of my Ally to take it to the shop tomorrow for repairs and look at my Metapeep after I take it off. The darn thing is oblong in shape and I can see a crack on one side where the notches are for the string.
Anyone else with this problem? |
RE: G5 meta peep
I havent had any problems with mine and Ive been shooting them since they came out. Id deffinetly give G5 a call or email them.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
I heard the same thing from a local shop owner a week ago. I called to another shop to confirm and they too have been having problems with the Meta Peep.
Lateral string pressure is what does the damage. The G5 won't be going on my string. I don't care how cool the color is. |
RE: G5 meta peep
Thats strange. Im guessing they must have just had a bad batch made. I havent heard anything going wrong with them as of yet. Both me and a friend shoot them through 70lbs bows and havent had problems.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
My proshop told me they have seen the same thing numerous times this year already..........exactly how you described it.
I have a 1/8" Meta in one of my bows.........we will see I guess. |
RE: G5 meta peep
I called my uncle in Wisconsin and he says that his local pro shop has seen the same problems.
Very interesting... |
RE: G5 meta peep
Thanks for the confirmation. I have the 1/4". I wonder if the larger size in combination with the stress that is put on the aluminum is causing it. Another part of it may be that even though the parallel limbs help reduce vibration and stress in the horizontal directionon the bow I would think that the vertical pressure is increased dramatically and that would try to squeeze the seperated strings together. I'm definitely getting in touch with them M5. I've only had it on about a month and shot6 or7 times.
Besides the color I liked how slim the peep was. |
RE: G5 meta peep
I have had a 1/4" G5 on since late last summer and still in perfect shape. Have it on a Mcpherson Edge set at 60#.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
G5 knows of the problem and has fixed it supposedly. I had the demo models from the trade show and all 3 turned to eggs. My proshop wizard shipped them back and got me the new and improved models.
They said it was bad material but I think when companys start to mass produce the quality turns to crap and they just get as much from that product and then move on. |

RE: G5 meta peep
And,I can buy 4 of the others for the price of the meta. I've got a 1/4" meta on my bowhunter/release class bow and haven't had any problems with it. Sure ticked me off with the price when I bought it, but it was the only 1/4" size in stock and I was needing one bad and in a hurry.... |
RE: G5 meta peep
YUP, heard the same thing at my shop about that peep. This story is not about the metapeep, butI changed my peep the other day, well Len did. I wanted it reamed out a little. When he took it off he showed me where the strings had cut through the outside covering of my generic peep and there was a sharp little metal burr digging on the string. I guess just lots of shots and wear and tear. So, we put on a new one. Would never have seen it myself probably and no one could seen it as long as it was on the string. It could have very easily cut through some string strands.

RE: G5 meta peep
Great to hear. Just put one on a few weeks ago.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
No problems with mine and I have had the G5 peep since day one on a 63# mathews outback
|
RE: G5 meta peep
This may be a case of a bad batch that's still floating around. Or my Bowtech is just too much for the little meta!!! Just kidding on the second comment. It's just funny that I spent the extra money on a product that you expect to be superior. Oh well, that's life.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
I retract all the good stuff I said about those darn peeps. I was shooting today and saw that yet another g5 as turned oval on me. It is not alot by no means but I cant deal with the bad quality and for the money. I can tell you that most of the ones egging are on high poundage bows. Len said today he was not gonna stock them anymore and I cant blame him if its a poor designed product why keep it.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
Sorry to hear that yours went south on you too. I'm wondering if how the magnesium is cast is the problem, not the design? Also, I'm still trying to figure out howsomeone could determine if they had aone from the bad set or the good set by just looking at the package? I have a feeling that they fed Len a line when they said the ones thatwere sent were from the new set.
I just sent G5 an email about this issue. I wonder what type of response a non dealer will get? |
RE: G5 meta peep
Just wonderful.
I couldn't find a singe 5/16 peep anywhere except the g5 and now this. Mine's only been on 2 months and so far it's OK. My luck, it'll oval overnight the night before opening day. |
RE: G5 meta peep
Anyone have an idea how long it takes to show a problem???
I put one on my B.I. a month ago but haven't shot much because of the weather. I just checked it and it's o.k. but I'll take it off now before I ruin a new set of VT strings. |
RE: G5 meta peep
I wonder if it matters what size you are shooting, some of the larger peeps are pretty thin walled, I shot a 1/8" @ 80#'s and so far so good. (knock on wood).
|
RE: G5 meta peep
I have/had the 1/4". I'm sure that may be part of the problem. the outside diameter of all of the peeps are the same. The hole diameter is the oly difference. Therefore, I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. It may be the properties of the magnesium that have something to do with it too.
Mine took about a month and a halfof time with shooting twice a week and about 60-80 arrows or more a session. So,480 to 640 shots or so. To be safe I'd say less than 1000. I didn't notice it untilI took it off the string to have the bow serviced. Saw the shape and then noticed the cracks where the string passes thru the slots on the sides. |
G5 meta peep update
Iemailed G5 last night about the issue. Brian emailed me back to call him today. I called him up and he told me to just mail it back to him and they would send me a new one. He said that they've added a 1/2" grain to it and also changed it a little.
So, anyone else with the issue can email or call G5 to get it a replacement. I'll see if the replacement works better. I've laready orderd a 1/4" fletcher aluminum max hunter for if this thing fails again. |
RE: G5 meta peep update
I have the new ones on all three of my bows and all three are egged. G5 is tryin to save face by tellin people they fixed the problem but the magnesium just cant take the force and latteral pressure put on them. I think know its a great product but the did not think about the forces the newer bows of the future can dish out. I am shipping mine back friday and hope to get some type of explanation or refund but I think I'm wasting my time.
|
RE: G5 meta peep update
big,
That sucks and probably means I'm wasting my time. I ordered an aluminum peep along with my serving tools. So, we'll see what I decide to do when I have both. I'll probably put the G5 on and if it eggs it goes in the garbage and I call G5 and tell them they didn't get it right. |
RE: G5 meta peep
I am shooting a Hoyt Vipertec set at #70 and have had a 1/4" Meta Peep on it since they came out on the market I haven't noticed any problems with it other than it keeps turning on me but I believe that was how it ws put on.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
If you don't put the serving at least one inch above and one inch below that is where alot of the problems are coming from I have a 5/16" on my 07 Allegiance with no problems not saying I won't have though.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
In the case of some of the custom strings with much higher twists per inch, pressureis greatly increased on the peep to the tune of less than 1" as previously noted. To achieve 1" clearance on each side of a peep you'd have to untwist some strings - NOT. Aluminum peeps like Tru-Peep and Radical don't have these problems.
Peep manufacturers also have to be aware of these more intense twist rates and their subsequent tighter angles on the sides of the peep. Therefore they have to make sure the peeps don't present sharp edges to the strands and which can cut string strands and eventually cause strings to break at the peep location. We've already seen this happen. |
RE: G5 meta peep
I put a 3/16" on my bow yesterday and gained 7 fps....I looked at it this morning and so far so good, it's in perfect shape.
Just a question of curiosity...For ya'll that are having problems, how are you tying the peep in? Do you serve above and below, or just around the peep? |
RE: G5 meta peep
Above and below.
The factory Bowtech string does have a lot of twists in it. However, I'm not sure what is a good or bad number of twists per foot. An update: G5 shipped mea new peep last week. It really looks exactly like the last one. I'll put it on a new string that I'm ordering and see what happens. |
RE: G5 meta peep
They are magnesium guys, they will never be as strong as the aluminum ones.Regarless of what they try.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
I've got the 3/16 on my Allegiance and have put probably 1500 shots through her since January... No problems with my Meta Peep so far.
Served above and below. |
RE: G5 meta peep
Ive got a 3/16 on both my Ross's, no problems as of yet. I even talked to a couple of shop owners in my area and they havent heard of any problems yet either.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
glad i lost mine.
|
RE: G5 meta peep
I think it's the best peep yet and we have sold a ton of them at my shop. None back yet as far as I know. Mine is well over a year old and looks great.
