RE: how can i get better groups?
As others have pointed out your grip looks alittle off , try ancoring the bow in the lifeline of your palm . One problem with your form that I see is that your shoulder on your bowarm is way to high , your shoulder should be down and locked in , the way you are drawing and anchoring your bow shoulder looks as if you would be quite sore after shooting , useing too many arm muscels to do what your back muscels should be doinng , hence the sky drawing tendency .

RE: how can i get better groups?
If your arrow is going low like picture above, you could be trying to hard and long and your arm is getting tired!
|
RE: how can i get better groups?
Also, I think you should concentrate more on squeezing the trigger instead of punching it. You do not want to know when the bow will shoot. You want itto be a surprise.
Good luck KIdd! |
RE: how can i get better groups?
I also think your DL is a little to long, on the scene when the camera is infront of you, you can see your arm is fully extended. I was always told you want a slight bend, but not to much.

RE: how can i get better groups?
well first of all notre dame lost and ur mad so ur taking it out on me.....:Dnah im just playin with you zdeerslayer and i thank you for mthe comment but see if i lower my dl then my elboe bends too much so i was thinkin about getting a better release and i was also wondering if they sell adjustable ones wheere u might be able to make the release abit shorter cus i have acheapo 15 dollar one and it can compliment my dl.........and oh yeah i was going for notre dame man i was hoping they could pull it off but they just got spanked but oh well maybe next time it was a good game though

RE: how can i get better groups?
Gripping bow get a bow sling and relax that hand with bow sling it the bow only pushes against your left hand since you are right handed and will reduce torque graetly I agree with the others in thei observation

RE: how can i get better groups?
As the others said, work on your grip. In fact don't even call it grip, call it hand placement. Keep your hand as relaxed as possible. The index finger placement works for many, but the other fingershave to be dead relaxed.
Take off the factory grip. It is wide and difficult to avoid torquing. If it is uncomfortable to shoot off of the riser, wrap it with tennis racket tape. Bow shoulder needs to be down & back. This will aid with a little more stability. Also, it will help you avoid shoulder and elbow injuries. Unfortunately, removing the factory grip and pushing your shoulder down & back will result in needing to shorten the DL by about 1/2". Don't worry about loss of speed. An slow, accurate hit beats a fast miss every time. Shorten your release. Almost all wrist releases come with the length set for huge hands. You want it so that the second joint of your hand is on the release at full draw. If you are a hunter, an even shorter DL may be better. This allows you to hold against the wall at full draw even when you are in awkward positions. If you are a target shooter, the way it is now is not bad. Learn to adjust it yourself and you can tinker with it to find the sweet spot. Remember that consistency, doing everything the same every time, is the key to good acuracy and tight groups. Overall, your form is pretty good. I've seen archers with much worse shooting good groups. Drop your draw weight down a little so that you can practice more with less fatigue. Good luck, Allen |
RE: how can i get better groups?
allen read i thank you for all of your replies but i was wonderin if you can post a pik of dropping my elbow so that i can better understand and also i am planning to shorten my dl and hopefully by this weekend i can post up another video of me shooting but im goin to try to do it during the day so yall could see better i also bought a sling at the new bass pro over here in san antonio man that thing is awesome........but im not to sure how it will help mygrip.......

RE: how can i get better groups?
It's already been said and you don't want to hear it but your DL is too long! I can't see where shortening it will cause your elbow to bend too much, it's too straight as it is. Remember, it's better to shoot a bow that is too short than one that is too long.
Other than that, these guys have you going well. |
RE: how can i get better groups?
ok thank u rob i will do that aye guys but i didnt know that moving the peep up or down will change your shot...

RE: how can i get better groups?
Awesome idea with the video.
I also noticedsome things. 1. DL too long. You should have a slight bend in your arm. Also, the string is coming way back toward your ear a little to far in my opinion. 2. Grip is different every time. Your fingers should be completely relaxed and resting gently on the bow grip. 3. I noticed you are not using a kisser button. Kisser buttons are nice because they give you an added point of contact when your at full draw so its easier to be consistent. Try to have at least 3 points of contact at full draw. For me, I have the string touching the tip of my nose, the fletching barely touching my lower lip, my right knuckle on the pointy part of my jaw bone below my ear, and finally my peep and kisser button. The more the better. 4. How do you use your peep sight? Do you center the individual pin, or do you center the entire pin guard? I like to use a large peep and center the round pin guard inside the peep. This is more accurate than centering a small pin inside a large diameter peep. 5. You are not really following through after the shot. It looks like you drop your bow arm the instant the release goes off. Try to keep your pins on the target a full second after the arrow hits the target. 6. It looks like you might be punching the trigger although its hard to tell. Try to gently squeeze the trigger until it goes off. Let the pins hover around the bulllseye while sqeezing slowly and follow through. Don't try to force your sight pin on the bullseye - just let it hover around the bullseye. 7. It really looks like you are trying to pull too much draw weight. The way your shoulders come up is a dead giveaway that your overbowed. A shorter draw length might also take care of this problem. You want to be able to draw straight back to your anchor point. 8. Don't adjust your grip while at full draw. You are better off starting out with the proper grip before you draw. 9. Your left shoulder is hunched up too high. Try bringing it down some. You'll probably have to move your peep sight up the string. 10. Make sure your peep sight is adjusted properly. I noticed you tilting your head slightly forward to see through your peep. It was very slight but it could be improved. If you close your eyes and draw your bow to your natural anchor point, when you open your eyes the peep should be right there. If you have to move your head to see through the peep it needs adjusted. I really nitpicked everything I could find. Your form is actually pretty good but you wanted help so I felt obligated to tell you everyting I saw since you asked for help. Good luck to you man. By the way, here are some tips from Randy Ulmer. This guy knows how to shoot! http://www.bowhunter.com/bowhuntermagtv/BHTV_DOdescriptions/ |
RE: how can i get better groups?
thanks alot 38 b you mainly said everything that i wanted to hear just an all around answer thanks alot and i will try my best to work on what you have taught me especially lowering my dl
|
RE: how can i get better groups?
No problem. #2, #3, and #5 are the ones that really helped me improve my shooting the most. Especially #5 - following through and not dropping the bow arm too soon after the shot. Let us know how it works out for you.

RE: how can i get better groups?
