Carbon Tech arrow size i need????
#1
I don't want to select the wrong shaft. I've pretty much determined that i'm going to) Carbon Tech Whitetail arrows. The reviews i've read on the here and at AT are jawdropping! I found the Whitetail XP shafts (.0015 straightness) for just under 105 a dozen (Lancaster archery). That's a good deal considering one placequoted me 100 bucks a dozen for the regular whitetails [:-]. I just don't knowwhatshaft size to order.
My setup is a Bowtech Tributeset at 70#, 30" draw, 100 gr. tips. I think my arrows are cut to 28 or 29 inches. which shaft size would i need? I'm hoping the 45/60 because i want the speed but i think they will be underspined......the 65/80s are considerably heavier so i'm considering the cheetah if that's the spine i need but the cheetahs are not nearly as durable from what i've read......
Im probably going to order the SKB Freedom bow case also and looking for a stabilizer but the A-bomb is rediculously priced. My hi-teck will be fine for awhile.
thanks for any help fellas!

Without knowing all of your specifics I figured this with a peep and d loop on the string along with a 28 inch shaft, blazer vanes and your 100 grain tips.....
The 45/65's are WAY underspined for your setup. The shafts spinewould be weak by.074 compaired to what your setup requires. .074 don't look like a lot on paper but it is huge. This set up would produce 373.5 grains, 313 FPS and 81.16# KE. Sure is fast but the arrows would be out of control.
On the other hand the 65/80's are stiff by .026. Setup would produce 418.3 grains, 304 fps and 85.75# KE.
The 65/80's are the arrows you would need between the two.

Calm down there.... Yes, I am telling you your pro shop sold you an incorrect spine arrowif your setup and specs are exactlythe same as his.Which BTW is impossible since there was no Tribute last year. So don't be so defensive.
With a 28 inch shaft, 100 grain tips and blazer vanes shooting a Tribute at 70# 30 DL yields these numbers.
Theoptimal spinehis setup requires is .3263
The 40/65'sat these specs yields a spine which isweak by .074 compared to the dynamic spine required for his setup.
The 65/80'satthese specs yield a spinewhich is stiff by .026 compared to the dynamic spine required for his set up.

Buckeye, what are you using to get those numbers? Program?
Not familiar with those numbers in term of spine.
Don't mean to hijack the thread just curious

It is the same as listing a manufactures standard.340, .400 or .500spine deflection.
What I listed is what his bows sweet spot for spine would be (.326)
Start with one of those standard spine deflections offered by all arrow manufacturesand then tune your arrows length, nocks, fletching etc etcto your bow instead ofchanging your bows weight to fit your arrows limitations. Basicallyyou are optimally tuning your arrow to your bow.
I use OnTarget2 to help with my shaft selections.

Cartman,
Just go with the .300(65/80) cheetas, you get the speed, you get the spine, and you get great arrows.
I'm shooting Cheeta hunters,dipped and crested,3 blazers,double lock nocks,insert and 100 gr points.They are cut at 27 3/4 inches and weigh 392 gr.If you go with 85 gr points you will weigh @ 377 gr.Give them a look.
