Ive been in contact with Bucknasty on here and I really should talk to Gibblet. Both guys supposedly make very good strings. I usually replace my factory strings ASAP, but the ones on my new Martin P3 are just superb as for no-creep and peep rotation. I could probably get some more speed with 8125 over this UltraCam, but the bow (target setup) is only doing 262 fps now and I know I can judge distance well enough that getting up to about 270 fps isn't going to make that much difference. Of course, they are a bit ugly being black and grey. I might just opt for a color change one of these days. Something like Mountain Berry and Silver.

Gibby,

I got all the specs for the strings. I just have to decide on color. The bow is all black with brushed aluminum cams and limb pockets. I was going to get WC's from where I work. $45 a set, but I need to see how well your's work. Besides, I have a factroy set that is as good as my WC's on my hunting bow. They must have had an accident at the factory to do that.

When I'm ready I'll PM ya.

How come you got different user names? I'm confused---anb I confuse easily. Where can I get a look see of the different colors? At BCY maybe?

If I was trying eek out a little more speed (I never am), this is what I'd do.

I'd make it 2 strands less than average. The servings would be made as short as I could, without risking abrasion on the strands. I would put a loop on the string, and nothing else - no nock, no peep, no silencers. I would experiment with a speed button and a crono to see if I could eek out a few fps with one of those. Some people would get anywhere from 10-25 fps by doing all this.

Now for the bad part. It doesn't matter if you remove weight from the string or the arrow. Both create more noise and will put more stress on the bow. It is more likely to fail - catestrophically (read, "break"). The easier way to get more speed is to make the string as heavy as you want. Put all the crap on it that you like, and then shoot an arrow lighter than IBO - same effect. As long as you can get the arrow spine stiff enough, the results are the same - faster arrow, bow more likely to break.

PM GIBBLET. He will hook you up
Yes he will, I just got the strings he made me for my Outback put on the bow yesterday and I must say they look great. So far they seem to be shooting great as well. I figure I'll shoot the bow bare string for a week or so then have all the goodies put on (peep, kisser, silencers). I do have a question for Gibblet or anyone else who may know. When you put the string on the bow do you put it on just as it lays or do you need to twist it to where you think it should be or what, Does it matter will the string have some "memory" from when it was made or what? I don't really trust the guy at my local pro shop. I feel like I have more knowledge about archery than he does (he couldn't even tie my string loop [&o]!?!??,says he doesn't use a loop and if he does he uses the knotless one which he sells for $10.00, I just tied it on myself)he just has the equipment to work on my stuff and I don't. Hopefully that will alll change soon...I plan to buy a press .

it may or may not take a little tweeking, be impossible for me to know without having the bow. the loops come tied together so they won't untwist, and its intended that the installer not let them untwist as they are installed.

See if I can answer a few things here without sounding like a know-it-all. I'm always willing to learn.

Straightarrow, I know most of the stuff you mentioned. I'm in contact with John and strings are ordered. Being as my bow peaks at only 55# (special order bow) I'm going with two less strands of 8125. Servings to a minimum with a 3" center serving. Tied on nockset and Fletcher True Peep. I use a rope release so no loop is needed. I will be working with speed buttons also as I have my own chrono. Actually I use Simm's Leeches for this job. My end serving are only long enough to come to the end of the cams so I can slide the leeches right to the cams if necessary. As you know, this stuff is all trial and error.

Now the good part. I don't care how much noise the bow makes, but it isn't noisy now. And it's not a hunting rig. I generally adhere to the 5 gr/lb rule just as matter of safety ( and IBO rules)even though my drawlength is only 27". Right now I'm shooting Gold Tip Ultralight Pro 500's rigged up to weigh 267 gr and shooting 52-53#.

I am a speed freak and like to eke out all I can get within safety parameters, but speed is not really a requisite with this bow. If I need all out speed then I can pick up my SlayR which shoots the same arrow at 27" and 53# to 299 fps. This target bow is a P3 Elite/Nitrous X, all black. I'm trying to get a little color into it with the strings. Looks like red and silver with black servings.

For info the other stuff on the bow: Spott Hogg Hogg-It, Trophy Taker Spring Steel rest (.010 blade), Simm's Mini-Extremes with 4 ounce weights attached to each, 30" Carbon Dinker stabilizer on a 10 degree down knuckle with Stabilizer Enhancer at the end. No counter-weights just yet. Red, black, and silver wrist sling.

I do thank you for the thought, though.

Now for Turtle.

I usually put the strings on as they come. Don't worry about setting anything. Shoot about 50 to 100 shots and then set the specs of the bow. This sets the strings into the cam (s) and removes any initial creeping. The put on the string what you want and shoot the bow again. If your peep rotates it may be necessary to add or subtract a twist or two to the string, but good ones ( are you listening John?) usually stay put.

It's good to learn your own work. The more familar you are with your equipment the better. That way when something changes you'll have a handle on what made the change. And besides, nobody is more picky with your equipment than you are. You know what you're looking for and only you can achieve that goal----mostly by trial and error. That's part of the fun of archery.
