Need advice on pendulum sight

Any of yall that use a pendulum sight. I would like a bit of input on good and bad ones on the market. I have looked at the Vital Bow gear and the Cobra Extreme sight. I kind of like the VBG sight5 better but I have never had either one out of the pacage yet. I want a small pin dia. also. Any sugestions appreciated. Thank You

RE: Need advice on pendulum sight

I have a Cobra, and it has served me well. I have only had one problem with it. There is a small plastic piece that holds the pivot for the axel. It cracked on mine. Cobra replaced it free of charge, even paid shipping. They told me they have changed the plasic formula that they were using. Using a differentplastic now.. Anyway I put the new one on and no more problems. That was over a season and a half ago.I dont have experience with any other penedulums so I cant say on any others.
I sighted it in from 20 yards on the ground, and it was close from the stand. Did some final tweaking from the stand and it right on. With my Patriot Dually it is dead on from about 5 to just over 30 yards. It helps me not have to worry about distance, just concentrate on my form and shot. I have not missed a deer since I started using it.

i had one of the old cobra's and a keller. both workrd great. could shoot pine cones all day out to just over 30 yds. never did really like them though. went back to pins. just recomend getting one you can lock in to shoot from ground level if you have to. the guys i know that still shoot the newer keller wouldn't shoot any thing else. mr keller with help if you have a problem just give him a call.

i shoot a keller pendulum sight and it works like a charm i slay deer every year it has a main sight for up to 30yards and another sight for up to 40 so i have to say in my opinion go with the keller

I don't know about what others say, but I use a Trophy Ridge Mantis Guide Series pendulum sight. Sighted in for 20 yds on the ground and is perfect out to 30yds in the tree.

RE: Need advice on pendulum sight

Savage is the brand, there are a couple slightly different models. Kellers are good, but were much noisier compared to the savage.

Bend at the waist and forget the pendulum sight...the less moving parts the better (and quieter)!

All i've heard is that keller does a pretty good job. But i've never had any experience with them.

It has nothing to do with bending at the waist. I have been hunting for long enough to know how to bend at the waist. I go 25 ft. up in a tree it is the angle thing I am trying to eliminate, not the anchor point.

NCYankee 02-23-2006 09:47 PM

RE: Need advice on pendulum sight

In my opinion, it'sall about the anchor point! With the speed of today's bows, how much influence does gravity have on a 20 yard shot? When my anchor point from an elevated position is consistent with that of a level shot, my pins are dead-on...It can't be just me!

OK at 8 yds 20 ft up where do you have to aim? At 15 yds? at 22 yds? At 30 yds? Wouldnt it just make sense to use the same pin all the time without having to compensate. Does to me. Yes I use 1 pin out to 30 yds now and it works. But at 30 I nees to shoot a bit high unless im shooting down the ridge of course. At 10 yds I have to shoot low unless im shooting up the ridge. Just trying to eliminate all the figuring. I am getting older ya know.

RE: Need advice on pendulum sight

Im with TeeJay on this one I dont want to have to worry about a geometry lesson to try to figure out where to aim. With the penedulum just put the pin where it goes and let her rip. I have shot over too many deer in the past. I have not missed one since I put the penedulum on. You can always buy one of the new Leupold rangefinders that have a built in level in them. They tell you how far the animal is and what the angle is and what the distance you have to aim at.

RE: Need advice on pendulum sight

TeeJay,
I'll take your word for it! I never saidthat pendulum sightsdidn't work...just that I personally didn't see the need for one. At anything under 20 yards,my twenty yard pin is dead-on, so I really don't have to do much figuring. Although I will admit, if a deer isfive yards from your tree and you're 25 feet up, it would be sort ofhard to bend that much!Maybe I'll try one! How do they work at ground level at 40 yards?
If there are any Trophy Ridge reps out there who want to send me a Mantis to try out, I promise if I like it I'll sing praises!...just kidding (no I'm not).

Im thinking on the savage. Which has the adjustable arm like the TR Mantis. I have lost and missed deer because of the geometry thing.

RE: Need advice on pendulum sight

I must be lucky because I have a single pin fixed sight that is accurate out to 30 yard from ground or tree. I might be two inches high at 15 yards from a tree but for hunting thats okay. The arrrow enters high and comes out low. I shoot a 70 pound razortec with cx300 arrows and 100 gr slick tricks. Its nice to only have one pin. Less distraction....

Savage QC Ranger, can be used on the ground or in a stand.

Losing them deer hurts bad. I'd rather miss one than hit and lose one for sure.

I have an older Predator IV pendulum sight. If somone wants to try it out. I spend more time on the ground huntin' ground hogs and stump shooting and this year am moving towards a recurve. And when I am up a tree. I have never had a reason to go highter the 16' or so. If you want to try it out, let me know and I will send it to you. It is just sitting in my gear box.
