what is the difference

The smaller shaft sizes will penetrate better than the larger ones, but the penetration is not noticable. The smaller shafts, the SST carbon shafts, would actually shoot slower than most carbons. The reason for this is their weight. They are heavy shafts for carbon. The few extra grains you get will only slow your bow down by one to two fps (the general rule is for every three grains you gain, you lose one fps).

sorry, I thought you meant the arrows. nothing agains outserts. I still may get the sst. I am not sure right now. I am spending quite a bit of money. I bought the saw that we seen from hardbor frieght but I found one on ebay. I have ordered from HF and they take FOREVER to ship things. I also ordered a jig to fletch, all I need now is some shafts. I want to go light but not too light. I am guessing that is possible.

5 grains per pound is the lightest you would want to go. If you are shooting 70 lbs, 350 grains is the lightest you would want to go. The heavier the arrow, the more KE. I would buy the SST's if I were you. They look like great shafts.
