what?? you need to go back to basic physics.. Just for the record take any bow any draw length. shoot a 300 grain arrow you will get such and such a speed and so many ftlbs of KE. now take same bow, same draw length, just change arrow weight and shoot, you will get slower speed but KE will always,I repeat always, be more. and the heavier the arrow gets the more KE you will get, even though it is going slower. You will need a Chronographs to measure the speed at the bow and and grain Scales to measure the weight of the arrow.

At least it's always been that way and I don't see why physics would change just because you bought a bow and arrow.

Well, it must be fast enough. Just got me a 4pt this morning. I debated on whether to shoot, but I lose this property after this year, and said why not, I need the meat.

You are absolutly correct, but take this into consideration:
a 300g arrow produced speeds of 273fps and energy of 49.66 ft-lbs
a 600g arrow produced speeds of 201fps and energy of 54.16 ft-lbs
that means velocity loss = 26.2% and kinetic enery gains= 8.3%
Those are huge losses for minimal gains.

Additionally I personally went from a 447g arrow (speeds of 248fps) to a 369g arrow (speeds of 269) and a loss ofonly 2ft-lb of energy, from 61ft-lbs to 59ft-lbs. But at thirty yards my window to miscalculate yardage went from 3yds (above or below) to 6yds (above or below) still hitting the kill zone.

The old addage "fast miss/Slow kill" doesn't hold water. The extra speed gives me a wider margin for error in estimating yardage! And the kinetic energy? PAALEEEASE! I can drop down to 40ft-lbs and still kill a deer.

y'all are cracking me up with your KE. KE never did squat to a deer, i can guarantee you that. where's the darn physics folks, lets burn this barn again LOL.

The wife and I hunted together last Friday evening off the ground and as we sat about 10 feet apart, I called "Texas style" with a rattle bag, grunt and can calls. I made as much noise as I could to sound like there was one H3LL of a fight and it paid off very well;)

This buck came in to 6 yards where Patty made a perfect heart shot on him and he dropped in sight after a 50 yard scramble. We weren't using any kind of a blind, only sitting in front of tree stumps. her bow set up was an '05 Bowtech Defender set at 55 pounds and 26 inch draw shooting Easton LightSpeed 400's with a Muzzy 100 grain 3 blade. Though the arrow stopped in the off shoulder, it centered the heart and it was all over in 7 seconds. Her K.E. of the arrow was around 48.5 foot pounds,, all she can generate with her draw and arrow weight.

For hunting,, shoot as much K.E. as you can develop and shoot accurately with your set up and simply live with the results, you'll do just fine;)

Yes it was a good shot,, she's still jabberin' about that hunt today!!:D She did a GREAT job of "holding it all together", she held at full draw for about 2 minutes while he licked branches and made a scrape at 20 yards. Then he turned and started coming closer and finally turned broadside at 6 yards where she stopped him with a grunt:)
