Slam and 1/2 cams
 

I asked on the bowhunters forum, but I thought i would bring the question here too. Does anyone know any pros or cons about the Reflex Cam and 1/2 system. I liked the Buckskin, but not real sure about these particular cams. The reviews are great, but i need first hand knowledge

The slam and a half is the same thing as Hoyt's cam and a half. Lots of good things to be said of them. They are also on the same principle of Dartons CPS cam system.

Thanks Josh, I wasn't to sure, the other thing i like about the bow is the split limb. Everyone i know that has the split limb praises it

The thing to remember about the cam and a half, is that you still have to time the cams. No matter the cam system, it must be tuned to get optimum arrow flight.

The Hoyt split limbs are some of the best. Very few failures.

armyhuntinguy - I've had the Buckskin about eight months now. It's a nice bow andonce I got the cams in time, I've hadno problems with it. The factory strings will stretch a mile, though (at least mine did), so I would encourage you to invest in some custom strings if you buy one. The money spent is well worth it - you won't have to worry about string and cable stretch or having to time the cams several times a year. Good custom strings won't rotate either, so you can set your peep and forget it (if you use one).

Thanks again. I definately know that any bow needs to be timed, I usually take mine to have it done. I'm not real sure how to do it. but about two months before and a month after bow season

Actually, it's not as hard as it seems. You just need access to a bow press. I have a portable one that I use when I work on my bow.

One thing i didn't know was that the factory strings stretch so much. Where is a good place to go to get custom stings, or can i just do that at a local pro shop

You can order a lot of them directly from the manufacturer via the internet. I don't have enough confidence in my ability to install them properly though, so I just had my pro shop order and install them. Cost me a few dollars more, but was worth knowing that if there were any problems I could take the bow back to them to fix (there weren't however). Next bow I buy I will have custom cables and string put on it before I take delivery. I'm using Winner's Choice cables and string now, but there are lots of good brands out there.
