I hope it's OK to ask this here. I'm working on a new product and I would like hunter inputregarding it'sfeatures and if you would use something like it. I'm planning on being able to provide to hunters at a reasonable cost up-to-date ( 1 year old or less) color satellite images with 2.5 meter resolution of whatever location they choose. The image would also have elevation contour lines like a topo map. You would be able to get the high resolution image on CD or printed outas a poster (around 3X4 feet). There would also be the option of subscribing to a website andhave access to the images without theelevation lines at low resolution (PC screen resolution).Any feed back would be appreciated. I'm also working on being able to generate3D images from the Satellite images.
Thanks in advance

Your description makes it sound expensive. I imagine that most hunters are not going to need such a high quality product. It sounds more like something a property owner might want for display. If a hunter can get the needed info cheaply on the interenet, I don't see the advantage of a high quality poster. There may be great demand, but it may be a different market that will buy it.

Funny that you ask today. I woke up early today to print maps of the two places I hunt the most. I found them on Iowa Geographic Image Map Server. I will get an OK map that will help me quite a bit. I would happy to pay for a better map, in say a 6x8 size, if the cost was reasonable. I don't hunt many places, so a couple of good maps would be nice. Jim

I would be interested in it as well but, as the others stated, the price can't be too high. I would typically be looking just to get a nice overhead view, topo lines would also be nice, of the area I typically hunt. I know it basically like the back of my hand but it is nice to know that I have all bases covered.
On a related note, I believe that somebody here in PA (possibly someone from the forest service,etc...) is updating aerial photos for the various counties in PA by taking current digital images. I remember reading it somewhere. I will see if I can dig around a bit to find the link

Thanks for the info from all those that responded. Just to add some more info in regards to some of the posts. YES, I'd love to be able to provide 1 meter resolution but the cost for that is way too prohibative. I'm working on making it affordable, I too am cheap
. It would be somewhere between the cost for Terra server prodects and My Topo products, leaning more toward Terra Server prices than My Topo. The projected cost will be $35 - $45/ sq kmfor a CDand around $65/ sq km for a 3X4 foot poster. Posters will be on tear proof paper.Other features that I'm also looking at providing is 3D images and 3D fly throughs.
The main reason i started looking into this was Terra Server had the free stuff but it was so old and the area I hunt changes continually from logging. One year i had scouted an area and when i got there a couple weeks later the area was gone. That was not a good year.
Anyway thanks for the input and keep em coming.

i think its a great idea. the poster with the contour lines would be great to have in my bow room. it would also help a lot when new areas are aquired or when going on an out of state hunt. being able to read a topo map would really give a heads up on where the funnels are.
