RE: Get rid of peep sight???

well, my peep stayed on my bow for about a month. I just put a no peep on mine and altho I cannot say for sure (haven't shot just yet, it is dark out) but I think it is going to stay. took a bit to set up, but I like it alot. I am shooting a different string on my hoyt that will not twist my peep. the zebra string certainly will take all peeps and keep them aligned from what I can see. try the no peep, or at least look into it. very interesting tool.

I have a problem...I'm kind of new at archery. My knukle doesn't come anywhere near my ear, Let me write down some numbers and let me know if I need to start all over please.

Axle to axle...40"

Peep sight from nock 6"

Here's what my reference points.. My right index finger is touching the bottom of my chin.

My big nose is touching the string below the peep sight about 1 1/4 " below.
I'm shooting fingers.
Does this sound right?

chuck, 'sounds' about right. it is difficult to say without seeing. oh, the no peep is awesome. some resighting and I am good to go, shots are fast and accurate...

Chuck7,
Sounds almost perfect.

I have to say this though, try a mechanical release. You'll love it:D

RE: Get rid of peep sight???

you might do a search in the archives for a post by jollyarcher. he shoots w/o a peep and developed a simple system to do so. i plan to adopt his system next season. i wanted to get rid of my peep for this season, so i bought a hindsight for a quick fix. ultimately, i don't want to have any rear alignment device of any kind (except my eye and various anchor points. ;)) instead of just jumping in from shooting a peep to shooting without any rear alignment device, i decided to take baby steps. i'm on a three-season plan. sho-me,

If I can do it, so can you. In just 5 days, I have started to shoot more accurately without the peep-sight. It feels more natural to me everyday to not have that peep on the string.

Put some marks on your hind sight so you could put it back exactly the way it is now and try shooting without it. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

RE: Get rid of peep sight???

Chuck,

There'd no reason to feel that accuracy is not achievable without a peep, even though you shoot fingers. Shooting and perfecting your form is the key---doing the same thing for every shot. Try to get a look at how Olympic shooters shoot their recurves. I've seen movies of them shooting 5-6" groups at 90 meters (100 yards) with nothing on the string but a nockset, relying completely on a coinsistent anchor.

RE: Get rid of peep sight???

that may be easier said than done...last year i gave up my release in favor of shooting fingers...that was a major change for me. i don't feel comfortable about letting go of some kind of rear aligning device all at once. like i said, i'll just continue to slowly phase it out as that will be most comfortable to me...i'll be there after next season. ;)

good luck this season!
