LEN Update
Well, I just left the hospital for the second time today. I spent a couple hours in the waiting room during the surgury. They had their facts a little screwed up the last time I was there. At 4:00 they said he would be coming out any minute... they were finishing up. WRONG!!!
The thing was a little bigger than they thought. They had to call in a specialist as they thought it was attached to the liver and colon. Fortunetly it wasn't. It was just so large it was pressed hard against it and just stuck there... NOT ATTACHED. They didn't finish until around 5:30. They had just wheeled him up to a room around 7:00. He gave birth to an 8 pound tumor... all self contained it looks like. They had to do a little more cutting than they thought but not as bad as first stated. I just stuck my head in and said hello. Hugged the wife and kids and let him have his rest. If you want to attach a note and they are fit for family reading I'll print it out and take it to him. |
RE: LEN Update
I'm happy to hear that everything turned out good!!
I wish you a speedy recovery and want to let you know that your absence here is felt. P.S. "You gave birth to a 8lb tumor?"<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> What are you gonna name it?<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> |

RE: LEN Update
Len, glad to hear things came out well for you. My father was in your exact shoes over 5 years ago. Tumor much larger than anticipated, surgery much longer than expected. His was in the same place I believe yours was, and also wasn't attached to anything. Dr.s reported 100% removal, no chemo or radiation needed, he's been squeaky clean since. I'm sure you'll be the same. Keep your chin up, and God be with you and yours.

Avoid the inevitable until it is absolutely unavoidable! |
RE: LEN Update
They shipped him home from the hospital today. I was going by his shop to pick up some arrows and then by the hospital. He was released this AM and was sitting gingerly in a chair in the lobby. NO, he's not working.. just stopped in on the way home. Can't drive for 2 weeks. He wanted to go hunting tomorrow. His wife would cut off mine and his if I even hinted I'd drag him out.<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> Couple of weeks, a crossbow, a couple ground blinds and we'll be back. He can't climb or pull a bow for a little while as they slit him like a Japanese suicide job...side to side. <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> Happiness is having your hunting partner back. I haven't really felt like going. Second Saturday of the season and I stayed home.

RE: LEN Update
Thank you all for both the posted and private prayers, thoughts and concerns for both me and my family. Yes, I was released today when the Surgeon inspected his work (incision) and my stats. The incision is 12" long with 28 staples and looks pretty good for its size. The tumor was not 8# but 8" by about 7". It was pushing the attached kidney up against the diaphram and behind the rib, and was also wedged between the liver and the colon. Because of this complication, they did call in another specialist to determine how best to remove the tumor.
I am glad to be home and am doing quite well for what I have had to encounter. With Dave and the help of others, I should be in the woods in a couple of weeks. Very gingerly at first, but still in the woods. This situation could very well have had a very negative ending had I not gotten a general physical. My Doctor also told me that he may not have found the tumor had my stomach had more fat around it. What I'm saying to each and every one is to keep your weight down and get a physical. It may well save your life. Good luck and good hunting. |
RE: LEN Update
Keep my weight down? Living in Nebraska? With my Wife's cooking? Well for you Len I'll try. Seriously though it's good to have you back and don't over do it too soon! Russ.

RE: LEN Update
Rangeball: I'm so glad your father is doing fine. I pray I will do as well. My prognosis looks good right now.
I'll have a lot of time to be on the 'puter while recouperating. I'll try to stay out of trouble by not irritating some people about sensitive subjects.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> |

Welcome back, Len. Glad to hear things are going your way and you won't be missing the woods this season.
As far as the additional computer time, I wish the circumstances leading to it were different, but I'm looking forward to reading your 2 cents worth, controversial or not :) |
