Bill,
I was wondering if you had seen this mount anywhere before?

Mine was not up to the level as the one above but I'll get there yet. Here's mine back at home. Glad to see you're around. Your entry was great. I wish I had had the chance to say Hi.

You know, based on the nice compliments I received I guess I had five guys I still had to impress! But evidently I didnt. Thanks for your kind words, though. I think your mount looks great. What category did you go in, and how did you make out? You know, I never even got pics of my mount that included the base, the guy who does my wood work was hoping for one.

Bill,
I ended up with a red in Prof. division. Meder was the judge and he gave a great critique. Ear butts still need work, eyes needed a little work, finish work needed touching up. I knew the finish work was off. I did the finish work on Sunday and Monday night then left on Tuesday. I can do a lot better on the finish, but I rushed it to get it done.

I know your probably not too worried about it, but I don't think you have anything to prove. I don't know the individuals who made the comments on the Net, but their motives are obvious.

On another subject. I have two fawns to mount that I hoped to do for show. I've had them for 1 1/2 years. They are were one and two weeks old when they died. The oldest one was a runt so is no bigger than the young one. Would their eyes have still been blue at that age?

Oh yeah, if you need a picture of your mount. I think I got a couple but the above is probably the best and maybe one from more behind. I could email them to you.

Hobbes I think you did a great job ...it shows that you put a LOT of effort into your work ...well done my friend ... and I agree with you based on what I have seen of Bills works I would have to think there is NO one on THIS forum he has to get approval from, his work obviously speaks for itself.

Hobbes, you know, for as many fawns as Ive raised, I forget when the blue goes away, but itll turn to hazel for a bit, and then darken. Ill keep a better eye on this years batch and be sure before I give you a definitive answer, ok?

I think you did a good job on your mount, and to pull a second at that shows bears that out. They judged you guys tough, Im sure of that. From the photo it looks like you were using copper? Howd you like that? Thats a medium I havent messed with yet, but I hope to.

By the way, you can email me at [email protected]

And guys, again, thanks for the kind words.

Bill,
The copper look is actually copper metalic paint with a wash of black water base paint. I used 3/4" pipe that I had a friend weld for me then I used utility cloth to build somewhat of a form around it using duct tape and plastic wrap then I poured it about a foot at a time with foam. After completing that I used Apoxie Sculpt to build the texture and some of the shape.

I couldn't complain about the 2nd considering the rush job I did to complete that mount, but I pulled a 2nd at the two previous shows also. I should be learning from one to the next but I manage to come up with new errors. You judged my 2001 mount and I think the two I brought in 2003 were judged by Carter, Cochran and You. One of them had the tape recorded critique. That was great but I don't think they did any of those this time around.

I'll try to get around to Emailing those pictures this week.
