While I wouldn't call it common, it's also not rare. Just one of those things that show up from time to time.

There are deers that have fangs such as the muntjac and chineese water deer, they look cool if you don't exagerate the size of the fangs

Beleive it or not Whitetail deer had fangs at one time. I run accrossone while boiling out skulls for European Mounts. It only had one about 1/4 inch long ont he upper jaw.

RE: Deer with coyotes teeth

Folks, I believe we are talking about two different subjects here. Deer with "fangs" are actually maxillary teeth. Whitetails have them sometimes, one side or both. Its in the same place as ivories in elk, etc. I see them in a couple deer each year here, and have also seen them in caribou. Sometimes they protrude beyond the skin and gum/palate line, thats usually when I notice them best.

What the guy is asking...I think...is about mounting coyote jaws into an open mouth deer head. Chase catologs have a lot of crap like that in there...junk. Guys do it, in the name of novelty taxidermy.
