Hello Everyone. I am new to this forum and site. I am a 16 year old guy. I live about 1 hour north of Minneapolis Minnesota on a farm. AND i LIVE to hunt WATERFOWL. I am posting this because i just got a new Purebred YELLOW LABRADOR RETRIEVER and i named him DRAKE. He was Born on 2-28-05 and is retrieving a ball very well. THE MAIN reason im writing this, not only to introduce drake and i, but to ask your advise....so my question....
Does anyone have any good ideas for a name to register Drake under. I've been thinking about it since i got him at 6 wks old and cant think of anything. Any input will help..Thanks...

Hello KyleandDrake:
I too just got a new chocolate lab Pup, He was born march 7th and i've had him home one week today. His name is also Drake(must be a popular name) Im gonna train him for waterfowl hunting too. My dog s registered name is Cedar Creeks Drake ,cedar creek being the kennel name where i bought him, they signed the registration papers from AKC with their names 1st & told me to fill out his name whatever i chose after theirs, good luck with your new pup and hunting, hope to see more posts from you here (Im gonna post some pics as soon as i figure out how to do it)

Hi Kyleandrake! I too am a new Bee around these parts. However, I'll try and help you out OK. I raise German Shorthair Pointers and when it comes to their papers etc. I always like to incorporate some of the past pedigree into the dogs name.
Example: I purchased a young pup out of "Huds Kickin Up Dust" a field champion and last years top points earner for field trials in the AKC open dog division. Now when it came time to give the new pup his registered name, I looked over his pedigree and saw that some of his ancestors, had field championships to their credit. So I named the new pup
"Huds Dixeland City Slicker" using this well know field champions registered names in part. We call him "Clint" for short but his papers denote his well known bloodlines.
"Dixeland Rusty" was a champion and on the top side their were bloodlines going back to "City Slicker" breeding. This way when you look at pedigrees it is easyier to follow the breeding, muck like in quarter horses etc. I hope this helps you out some OK.

My yellow pup is now 1 year old as of last week. The name was really easy to register because he was partly named after one of my favorite movies and partly named after my pheasant farm. Brookdale's Top Gun MAVERICK.
I also like using the name of the town you are living in or the color of the dog in the name.
But "High Flying Drake " is a good name as well.
You may want to post this on the waterfowl forum as well. Lots of Lab lovers over there.

I raise Deutsche Jagdterriers. My dog is named after a character in a book, Tom Bombadil. I find the name for a dog in a book. This works for me. If I had Drake as a call name, I would call him Sir Francis you get the idea.

I have a almost 4 month old yellow pointing lab pup...he come's from the Black Forest kennel...his father's name is Black Forest Cassy....I named my pup Black Forest Max's Camo Tank. I wanted the Black Forest name since they are very well know....Max was my Father's name.....we bought a camo collar to put on hime the day we went to do some puppy testing and bring whatever one we chose that day....the one we picked already had a camo collar on him....figured that for an omen..
....And Tank was cus I think he's gonna be one...[8D]...His call name is "Tank"...and it has a good sound to it while during training...
