In my area, there is a volunteer sevice that is called " Deer Search" . They use dogs to track wounded deer that people can' t find on there own. anyway, they use beagles mostly. I' m even looking into doing it and have researched dogs myself and beagles are my choice. traing is still a ? of mine to.

Are you going to be hunting upland too? If so...I would agree with Seattlesetters. If that doesn' t interest you.. and it will be almost exclusively " big game" , a Beagle would be a better choice;

Versatile breeds of which GSP and GWP belong to also do water work and small game. You can have a point on a bird then on a rabbit then send it out for a duck/goose retrieve, they will even bay/bark like a hound when chasing fur.
