English setter or what???
I will be purchasing a pheasant dog in the near furure. This will be a family pet and house dog for my three children first and foremost but I also want a well trained pheasant dog. I am considering a English Setter but am concerned this breed may not work as close as I like. I live in northern In. and hunt mostly small set-aside fields. I would like anyones observations and opinions on this and any other breed I should consider. thank you

I want to preface this by saying that every dog owner is absolutely sure that their breed is the best for every situation, so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt!
I would highly recommend brittanies. They are energetic hunters with good noses and staunch points, they don' t try to cover every square inch of whatever county you' re hunting, and are very good at adapting to family life as a pet. Currently, I have 8 brits of my own and 2 rescue brits, and they are like my wife and I' s children. Great dogs... just an opinion.
Like I said, we all will push our favorites at anyone foolish enough to ask!
Good luck!
