I think any good agressive hunting dog should be able to handle a mongoose if it can catch it. I have German Shorthairs and my male is sharp on many animals. He has had racoons, opossums and feral cats. He goes straight in for the kill and doesn' t give them much chance. A mongoose is a lot smaller, one bite and they would be done. I think you could also look into some terriers. I know some were breed for hunting badgers and wolverines there pretty tough little dogs.

Ha ha ha ha ha!!!! Why, where in Hawaii are you moving to? I live on Kauai. There are no mongoose on Kauai. Oahu has plenty. Maui too but not as much as Oahu. I don' t know if any of the other islands have.

No worry tho cuz there is no rabies in Hawaii. And SARS??? Ha ha ha

Mongoose are not very big. I think their bodies might be 8 to 12 inchs long with a long tail too. Not very big of an animal. You have to watch out too because if your near the woods, your dog will go out pig hunting too and might not come back.

If you want a good dog for killing mongoose get yourself a jagd terrier. Actually almost any hunting terrier will work. Even a Jack Russel or fox terrier would be perfect for mongoose. And you could also use those dogs in any Hawaiian style boar hunting with dog and knife because they will grab a pig too. So if you make friends with some local hunters, they might let you take along your dog too.

Pit bulls are also good all around hawaiian hunting dogs. My friend' s red nose gaming pit hunts giant rats in his back yard and was the greatest pig hunting dog I have ever seen, in her youth.

Maui get axis deer too. Oahu has just pigs. There' s also lots of upland game in hawaii. Instead of pigeons (which there also is) we have three types of doves running around. 3 types pheasant, 3 types quail, chukar, 3 types of franklin. Don' t forget your bird dog. Maui and big island and Lanai also has Turkey.

It' s a pain to bring a dog to Hawaii because of the quarenteen to be sure the dog doesn' t have rabies. But it' s better now in that the wait isn' t as long as before.

Hawaii has no legal small game but there are feral cats, mongoose and no shortage of rats if you want to go into the woods and shoot them with a .22. Otherwise no legal small game. And all those mentioned are pests and very bad for native and game birds. So please kill as many as you can when you come here. Don' t forget your 22 short. Unless your in a city, everybody shoots pellet guns in there yard. It' s pretty laid back still. You could shoot a 22 short and nobody would care. You can legally shoot pigs with a 22 mag so long as your hunting with dogs.

I don' t know if mongoose really are agressive but they are pretty small. You sometimes see them scurrying around. They aren' t that bad. Sometimes you see them hunting franklins. Please kill them.
