Training?
Im sure you see the same posts on here all the time lol but next weekend im getting my frist hunting dog shes a 12 week black lab golden retriever mix. Now im just curious how old should they be when training them to hunt and all that, i just want her to retrieve waterfowl and pheasant. Does any one have any tips or pointers to help me out in training her? Id greatly appreciate it very much.

Training (puppy training)(ie Operant Conditioning) should begin the day you bring your pup home.
Evan Graham (of Smartwork fame) has a DVD dedicated to training the "meat dog"
Go to his website at www.rushcreekpress.com/ and click on "Books and DVDs"
then scroll down toward the end and you'll see "Gundog Essentials - Basic gundog"
that's the one you need.
I would however suggest the "Puppy" video to start out with.

Training starts from the day you bring them home. Doc E's suggestion is good, as is Evan Grahams Smart Works program itself. I am using this program with my new pup.
But be prepared for set backs due to holes in your training that may show up years later as it did for me with my older dog, but that was due to me training my first hunting dog. But they can be fixed, but it has been enjoyable watching the dogs progress.
Congrats on your new pup, and enjoy.
