Training advice please
#1
My dog, Mo is going to be a squirrel dog for me, but before I let him loose on a WMA I need to trust him.
I've let him loose in the woods behind my house and he just took off. I couldn't even hear him. He returned after a while, but I didn't like not knowing where he was. I want to get him to stay within 100yds of me at maximum. On another forum It was suggested that I use an E-collar, Check cord, and/or a whistle.
I'm fine with the suggestions but don't know how to use them to achieve my goal. What are the proper techniques? If I train him in an enclosed park like a ball field, will he remember the range thing when he gets in the woods?
Please break it down Barney-style for me. I've got almost no experience in training hunting dogs.
Thank you so much!
