last year my dog passed away at 16 years of age.he wasnt a hunting dog to speak of but he loved to flush birds and was even a great pointer although i never trained him to be one...it took me all of a year to think about getting a new dog..i was heart broke when i lost bear.well this summer i met a family with a rottie that was wanting to find a home for this little pup..i bought him and havent looked back since...smartest little guy ive seen...ive learned that they were bred for herding sheep and such but he seams to have a fantastic nose and learns fast im thinking on trying to teach him ..he is only 4 mo old and is a handfull being alittle on the stuburn side,,,any one have any ideas on training him..if he dont learn it so be it,but i think we'll have fun trying...

I would first see how the pup reacts in the field. What will he do if he sees a bird? Squirrel? Mice? Does he chase or ignore? How far will he run out from you or polishes your boots?
