Default Conditioning my lab

i want to get toby ready for grouse. i was thinking of taking him out and take my mountain bike and ride road slowly and let him run along side me.
toby had his inner toe taken off and i know i cant go full bore with him,.just take him slowly.

my question is this good idea to get him and me in shape? also is it better to run him on dirt roads or asphalt?i believe dirt would be better.

i think this should be great way to get your dog in shape but i felt you folks would know.

thanks sproul

How long ago has the toe been removed? has he fully recovered? if yes to the second, then why not full bore? if your dog is out of shape, start slow. the paved road will trim his nails and toughen up his pads some which is not a bad thing. so throw a mix into both your workouts.

toe was removed about 6 months ago.he is doing fine now.
vet told me to run him on grass or dirt roads not gravel roads for awhile like you said.i agree with you , a little pavement but he said NO because it affects labs joints over time.
my neighbor users a kayak in river to train.then he uses the mountain bike on grass or pure dirt roads with lab running behind slowly for a mile or so.

i agree with you, i must go slowly and day off or so and watch toby carefully.that toe is weight bearing one on front paw.
some are using those rubber boots too but i feel as of now he does not need them.

thanks for info ,all advice is welcome....

The road affect animal and human joints over time, split your routine with hard and soft surface your pup will do fine
